Bigfoot on Space Saturday June 20, 2012 at 9pm ET

I'm a big fan of monster movies, and when I heard that a Bigfoot film starring 70's stars Danny Bonaduce (The Partridge Family) and Barry Williams (The Brady Bunch) I knew I had to see it. Bigfoot is directed by Bruce Davison (Off Season); and also stars Sherilyn Fenn, Andre Royo (The Wire), Bruce Davison, Howard Hesseman and Alice Cooper.

There is a whole lot of crazy going on when ex-musicians and rivals DJ Harley (Danny Bonaduce) and environmentalist Simon (Barry Williams) have a stand off over clearing trees to make way for a 80's revival concert in South Dakota. Little did they know that their rivalry would be the least of their worries when a monstrous creature beings to stir and wreaks havoc on the area. With the two forgive and forget to attack this massive Bigfoot together? Not bloody likely! Why loose the opportunity to have one more way to trump the other is way to tempting in this all-epic battle to get to the beast of Bigfoot.

It's been interesting to see see the trends in monster movies over the past few years, and I think the success of Mega Python vs. Gatoroid with Tiffany and Debbie Gibson gives a smart structure that is played on here to continue the meta theme and shine a light of seeing rivals facing off on the screen. Where Bigfoot one-ups Mega Python vs. Gatoroid though is, this time instead of pop stars we have actual actors, and I have to say that really helps as they can...act. I know I'm stating the obvious here, but I was pretty surprizing at how much of a difference it makes to have actors who can really hold their own and play well off each other and Danny Bonaduce and Barry Williams deliver that over and over again throughout the film. I also have to give credit to Bigfoot itself as the monster of the movie is quite good, being both scary and looking pretty gruesome and the effects were pretty solid. Sometimes it felt a little more King Kong than Bigfoot, but I really liked that it was actually in the film a fair amount and really went to town wrecking havoc and causing chaos. Now that's what you need in a good monster movie! Lots of havoc!

With the beauty of great rivals, an awesome monster and the fabulous meta backdrop to boot, Bigfoot was one heck of an enjoyable watch. I laughed a lot and absolutely adored the rivalry between Danny Bonaduce and Barry Williams who really played it up with each and every opportunity. I'd strongly recommend it to any B-movie fan whose looking for a good monster movie with some really good laughs.

Bigfoot is a SyFy Original Movie by The Asylum and will air here in Canada on Saturday June 30, 2012 at 9pm ET on Space.

Great review Shannon. I loved this flick as well. Lots of late night fun. Maybe a few minutes could have been trimmed but other than that it moved along nicely.

Keep writing!
