After some finales and premieres, we've hit a bit of a quiet time for summer TV (but it won't last!), and one good thing about that is we are seeing some of our cancelled shows come back for their burn offs! I'm really excited to see that we will see the end of many of them, and this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Weekis the return of 666 Park Avenue. They left us on quite a cliffhanger, so I hope there is a good 'previously on' recap!
666 Park Avenue ~ Remaining Episodes Begin
Saturday June 22, 2013 at 9pm ET on ABC
The slow burn supernatural drama set in a apartment building/once hotel was a big surprize win for us this year, although sadly it seems like it took a little too long to get people hooked and therefore was cancelled. So far, I haven't seen the burn offs being aired on a Canadian station, so make sure to watch/set PVR's and such on ABC for the show final episodes.
Whodunnit - Series Premiere Sunday June 23, 2013 at 9pm ET on CTV and ABC; hosted by Gildart Jackson this reality competition show takes 13 guests of a murder mystery to a new level. The series is described as: "Guests will use a variety of crime scene investigation techniques to meticulously uncover evidence in a series of puzzling murders and to ultimately reveal who among them is the killer. Some guests will form partnerships in the competition, while others will choose to go it alone in their quest for the reward of $250,000. The guests will reside on a glamorous estate called Rue Manor with a steward, Butler Giles (Gildart Jackson), and each week must solve a new crime in order to advance in the game. Failure to solve the crime will lead to a guest’s demise, until only three are left. In the final episode, one guest will unmask the killer and take home the $250,000 reward " Sounds interested to me!
Exploding Sun (Part 2) Monday June 17, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space; we have the conclusion to the scifi/disaster 2-part movie event that was last weeks pick of the week.
I'm so excited to hear that Helix has been picked up by Showcase to air during their 2013-14 season. This time of year can be a little nerve-wracking for us Canadians who keep our fingers crossed that the shows we are looking forward to land on Canadian stations and Helix from SyFy is a big win for Showcase. Helix's executive producers credits speak for themselves: we have Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), Lynda Obst (Contact) and Steven Maeda (Lost and The X-Files).
Helix has a big time science fiction vibe and potential disaster-feel as well. The trailer is cryptic, but in all the good ways you want it to be because all you want is MORE! And we are going to get it!
Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation."
Are you excited for Helix? I know I am! Thank you, Showcase!
L to R The Mutts are Noah Danby (Cain), Pascal Langdale (Marsten) and Curtis Caravaggio (Leblanc)
We now get to see some of the werewolf mutt baddies of Bitten! Here we have Noah Danby as Cain, Pascal Langdale as Marsten and Curtis Caravaggio as Leblanc. I have to say, I'm liking the looks they are going for with these guys and instantly knew who each character was.
It's been wild to be reading the book Bitten by Kelley Armstrong as the casting news and images have been released. I literally saw these images just a day or so after I read the part of the book that looks like what these images are from. Usually I really hate seeing images so close to reading, but I've decided to relax and just embrace it with Bitten. It's fun to see things come out just as they are forming in my own mind.
These images add to the already announced roster of the Bitten cast including Laura Vandervoort as Elana, Greyston Holt as Clayton, Greg Bryk as Jeremy, Paul Greene as Phillip, Paulino Nunes as Antonio Sorrentino, Steve Lund as Nick Sorrentino, Natalie Brown as Diane, Michael Xavier as Logan, Genelle Williams as Rachel and Joel Keller as werewolf Peter.
Bitten is based on the Kelley Armstrong books and will have 13 one-hour episodes that are scheduled to hit Space in early 2014.
L to R The Mutts are Noah Danby (Cain), Curtis Caravaggio (Leblanc) and Pascal Langdale (Marsten)
I'm thrilled we will be seeing more Continuum, and it's so s exciting to see an intelligent science fiction shows with great acting and lots of Canadian talent get the credit it's due. And we still have lots of Season 2 of Continuum to enjoy over at Showcase throughout the summer. Woohoo!
Exploding Sun - Part I
Monday June 10, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space
It's disaster movie time, or make that a disaster movie event in 2-parts time as starting tonight we have Exploding Sun (Part I) on Space. I think this one looks really good, and it looks like it has a lot of heart as well, something I personally always appreciate in a disaster movie. Part II airs on Monday June 17, 2013 at 9 pm ET on Space.
"With only two days to save Earth from destruction, Dr. Craig Bakus (Lemke), the astrophysicist who oversaw the launch, and Commander Don Wincroft (Elliott), a decorated NASA astronaut and former fighter pilot, are forced to put aside their differences. Former best friends, Don is now married to Craig’s ex-wife and their old rivalries are brought to the forefront when the mission derails and Don is put in charge. At odds, out of options, and with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance, Craig and Don struggle to put their past behind them."

Zero Hour Remaining Episodes Saturday June 15, 2013 at 8pm and 9pm on Global and ABC. Let the burn offs begin! I didn't realized these burn offs would be 2 episodes a night, but that might be a good thing as it leaves us less time to wait before finding out more of zee mystery!
Exit Series Premiere Wednesday June 12, 2013 at 9pm on Space. I'm curious about this competition series that has folks playing to escape four rooms including doing brain games and terrifying puzzles. I like puzzles! It will be fun to see what this one will be like.
I thought it was going to be a quiet week (and possible quiet summer), but the tide has changed and we have not one...not two...but THREE series premiering this week. Not only that, all three of them are big favourites of Suzie and mine: Teen Wolf, Being Human (UK) and Paranormal Witness. There is no way to call out one over the others, so all three are making their marks as the Paranormal Pick(s) of the Week:
Teen Wolf ~ Season 3 Premiere
Monday June 3, 2013 at 10pm ET on Much Music
Summer means Teen Wolf to me. Every since the show started in 2011, I've loved it. The crazy mysteries, the beautiful awkwardness, the awesome cast and of course... the werewolves. So much happens in each episode and I rarely have any idea what will be coming next. I can't wait to see out where they take it this season!
L-R Michael Socha as Tom, Kate Bracken as Alex, and Damien Molony as Hal
Being Human (UK) ~ Season 5 Premiere
Saturday June 8, 2013 at 9pm * ET on Space
This is not only the fifth season of Being Human (UK), but it's also the final season of Being Human (UK). Although I will be sad to see the show go, I am very happy that will get to see how this supernatural roommate drama sums up the series. It's been an emotional roller coaster through the years and I can't imagine it being any different as it comes to a close.
*remember Being Human (UK) is an extra-long show clocking in at 1h 15 min*
Paranormal Witness ~ Season 3 Premiere
Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space
This show is one of the scariest out there, and it's non-fiction to boot. I was a latecomer to loving it, only falling hard mid-season 2 but I'm happy I came back to it because the amazing storytelling that completely honours the truth of the experiences is extremely impressive. I'm looking forward to Paranormal Witness in it's third (and expanded) season, but I might have to watch it during the day with the lights on.
Deep South Paranormal's Hart Fortenbery and Keith Ramsey

Deep South Paranormal Finale Tuesday June 4, 2013 at 9 on Space; I found this non-fiction paranormal investigation show absolutely charming. I loved the combination of old world folklore plus technology with a lot of heart and compassion throughout. I really hope it gets renewed.
Revolution Season 1 Finale Monday June 3, 2013 10pm on CityTV; while we didn't talk about Revolution that much this year it was certainly one of the impressive successes of the new crop of 2012-13 shows and was confirmed to be renewed for a season 2. I wonder if they found out what turned off all the power.
Merlin in Syndication Monday - Friday 3pm (and 9am) on Space as of Monday June 3 2013; with the 5 seasons having come to a close it's a very smart choice to start airing this one daily! I found Merlin to be a highly enjoyable fantasy series, and would easily recommend it for anyone who hasn't tried it out yet.
Sinbad and Primeval: New World Season 1 rebroadcastings on Space; 2 great series to enjoy this summer starting from their very first episodes on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 7pm and 8pm respectively. This also concurrent pairs to the US airings of the shows premieres on the US SyFy channel.
L to R: Anthony Lemke as Craig and David James Elliott as Don on EXPLODING SUN
I'm always up for a good disaster movie, and it looks like Space is going to hook us up with the Exploding Sun, which will be airing as a 2 parts movie even on Monday June 10, 2013 and Monday June 17, 2013 at 9 pm ET.
At odds, out of options, and with the fate of mankind hanging in the balance, Craig and Don struggle to put their past behind them.
Meanwhile, the families of the civilians on the ship are forced to watch and hope. The civilian cargo includes Simone Mathany (Jane Wheeler, Journey to the Center of the Earth), the wife of the U.S. President; Peter Roebling (Bruce Dinsmore, ARTHUR), the creator of the civilian space program; Denise Balaban (Mylène Dinh-Robic, THE LISTENER), a systems analyst; Jose Hernandez (Luis Oliva, PROVIDENCE), who won a spot on the ship in a lottery; and Alan Elias (John Maclaren, BEING HUMAN), a world-renowned humanitarian, who left his wife Joan (Ormond) at their refugee relief camp in Afghanistan. For Joan, things become even more difficult when the camp’s communications are knocked out from the solar storm. Navigating an aggressive environment and an amoral warlord, Joan does what she must to save as many people as possible during the crisis."
It's getting hot out there and it looks like it will on the screen too! With June just around the corner it's time to look at the sizzling and scary shows hitting out small screens this summer. We also have a bit of a bittersweet turn this summer with several of our cancelled shows have being 'burned off' with there remaining unaired episodes coming to us this month including both Cult and 666 Park Avenue.
But let's look at the sweet before the sour; summer means the return of fan favourites from Teen Wolf to True Blood as well as series premieres like Under the Dome. If non-fiction is your thing, we have a new season of Paranormal Witness as well as the new competition/game show Exit. It's a little bit of everything this June!
Teen Wolf ~ Season 3 Premiere
Monday June 3, 2013 at 10pm on MuchMusic
Genre: Paranormal/Werewolves
Summer means Teen Wolf to me. It only started 2 years ago back in 2011, but I loved it then and looked forward to Season 2 immensely in 2012. The show it mysterious, crazy, funny and even manages some sweet romance in along with the awkward coming-of-age and coming-of-werewolf-ness. The show is so zany and mysterious, I found it hard to get details on the season without getting spoilers and I don't want to accidentally find out anything on this one. If you want to go into potential spoiler-land, you can check out this description of Teen Wolf Season 3.
Teen Wolf is an American show that's a werewolf-centric supernatural drama based on the 1985 film of the same name. The cast of season 3 includes series regulars Tyler Posey, Crystal Reed, Dylan O'Brien, Tyler Hoechlin, Holland Roden plus a few new faces. Season 3 will be 24 episodes (up from season 1 and 2 orders of 12-episodes), however I suspect we will get 12 episodes in Summer 2013 and the rest at a later time (mostly speculation derived from the back that in iTunes you can buy a seasons pass for "Part I" of Season 3 for the same amount as previous seasons). Either way, I'm happy we will be seen LOTS of Teen Wolf!
Paranormal Witness ~ Season 3 Premiere
Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space
Genre: Non-Fiction Paranormal
I was a late-comer to loving Paranormal Witness. When it first debuted it felt a little shlocky to me and a little to in the vein of Unsolved Mysteries. BUT, in Season 2 that all changed it and it became one of my favourite shows to watch every week with the spooky story, chilling reenactment and the bravery of the witnesses to shared their first hand accounts of the paranormal. The show is also very respectful of the experiences, which also really won me over and now I'm really looking forward to more.
Here is what we can look forward to in Season 3 of Paranormal Witness: "Mixing first-hand testimony with dramatic re-enactments, PARANORMAL WITNESS recreates uncanny experiences that defy explanation. In the season premiere, “The Long Island Terror,” a firefighter’s widow unwittingly buys the former home of devil-worshippers, and does battle with a demon to save her daughters’ lives."
If you are a fan of the show and want to get updates from people whose stories have been shared in previous seasons, SyFy has a "Life After Paranormals" section on their website with a fair number of updates. I love that they've included this so we can see how people are doing and get even more about their experiences.
Being Human UK ~ Season 5 Premiere
Saturday June 8, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space
Genre: Paranormal
I'm thrilled to hear we will be getting the fifth and final season of Being Human (UK) this summer. It feels like it's been so long since I was up in arms about Season 4 that I think I've finally mellowed out (and that season was good, I just... had quite a reaction to it). It's been a really long and emotional journey through the seasons over the years, and although I'll be sad to see it go I am very happy we will see how it will end.
True Blood ~ Season 6
Sunday June 16, 2013 at 9pm ET/MT on HBOCanada
Genre: Paranormal/Vampires
Easily one of the most popular, racy, crazy and loved of the vampire shows out there, this series looks like it will still be delivering the goods again and again. I'm a few seasons behind on True Blood, and it's one that feels so much more fun to be spoiler-free so I'm not going to include a season description here but you can read one over at the HBO Canada website.
True Blood is an American series based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries novels by Charlaine Harris. Season 6 will have 10 episodes (down from it's usual 12), and stars series regulars Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, Rutina Wesley and Alexander SkarsgĂĄrd.
Exit ~ Series Premiere
Wednesday June 12, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space
Genre: Non-Fiction/Competition
Although not paranormal, this show sounds like it gets the brain going and is challenging to boot! I think I'll be checking Exit out.
Here is a series description of Exit: "In each episode of EXIT, four teams of two contestants battle to escape a series of four rooms which are each more challenging than the last. The winning team must beat the clock while solving rapid-fire brain games and navigating a bevy of terrifyingly entertaining puzzles in order to be the only team to truly exit and win the $10,000 prize."
Exit is an American game show hosted by Curt Doussett and it's premiere season is scheduled for 6 episode. Exit is based on the Japanese show "Dero!".
Under the Dome ~ Series Premiere
Monday June 24, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Global
Genre: Science Fiction
A new science fiction show in the summer? I'm thrilled! Especially as we lost Alphas from the roster and this one is based on a Stephen King novel that's the size of a small town! How could they fit it into 13 eps and a bubble? Less than a month until we find out how!
Here is a description of Under the Dome:"Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, Under the Dome is the story of a small town that is suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome."
Under the Dome is an American science fiction series based on the novel Under the Dome by Stephen King. The premiere season scheduled for 13 episodes and the cast includes Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Colin Ford, Natalie Martinez, Alexander Koch, Britt Robertson, Nicholas Strong, Jolene Purdy, Aisha Hinds and Dean Norris.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cancelled Shows Finishing Their Freshman Run
The 2012-2013 TV season had many casualties, and most of them had abrupt stops during the year and if you are curious to our thoughts you can check out the latest episode of Hexed for our 2012-13 Scorecard. Although it's sad to see them go, it is nice that we will get to see how many of them ended in the summer burn-off's listed below.
Zero Hour ~Remaining Episodes begin:
Saturday June 15, 2013 at 8pm on ABC
The conspiracy thriller of Zero Hour didn't quite work for me, as it seemed to fall into a pattern after just 2 episodes as well as swaying in a very religious direction. But I'm really glad the remaining episodes will air, and I hope they give some interest and closure to the story.
666 Park Avenue~ Remaining 4 Episodes begin:
Saturday June 22, 2013 at 9pm on ABC
666 Park Avenue was a slow-burn and a bit of a sleeper hit, it took me a fair amount of episodes to get hooked but once I was, I really was. It's been a long time since they cliff-hangered us, but I'm thrilled to see the final 4 episodes will air and I will definitely be tuning in!
Cult ~ Remaining episodes begin:
Friday June 28, 2013 on The CW from 8pm - 10pm (2 hour block)
Cult being cancelled was the biggest disappointment for me this year. I'll admit to being wary of it in the first few minutes of the very first episode, but when I realized they were *suppose* to be a bit out there I was totally hooked. The crazy-meta references, great cast (Matt Davis and Robert Knepper totally rocked the house) and bizarre, rabbit-hole(s) story line always left me wanting more. I'm thrilled The CW will be airing the final episodes of the season, and I hope a Canadian broadcaster does as well! I'll keep ya posted.
Do No Harm ~ Remaining episodes begin:
Saturday June 29, 2013 at 10pm on NBC
Do No Harm will probably be known for the quickest cancellation of the year. I had to really work to see both episodes that air, and although this Jekyll and Hyde story was easily the most disturbing of the cancelled shows it has some great acting and phenomenal tension.
That's it for June! I'll update the post if any new shows pop up. Be sure to check out Ep 134 of Hexed where Suzie and I do our 2012-13 TV Scorecard for new shows that hit the small screen.
Hey Everyone! It's been a while but Suzie and Shannon are back and we are looking back at the new shows that debuted during the 2012/13 season that were either paranormal, or thought to be at one point possibly paranormal (some are hard to tell before they start!). We share of if the shows that have been renewed or cancelled and weight in on if we are happy (or not) with that decision. We also dive into not only fall start, but also winter start shows and share our thoughts on a few shows that have even started recently including a lenghty discussion on Defiance and being quite impressed with the oddness of Hemlock Grove. And our photo this week Suzie took with her awesome camera of the Full Flower May Moon! Isn't it beautiful?
Many of the cancelled shows will have their remaining episodes air starting in June, including Cult, 666 Park Avenue and Zero Hour. You can see a full schedule here, and they will also be in our June New and Returning post up later this week. We hope to be back soon to check in on how our regs finished out their seasons, things have been rather challenging for us so keeping up with TV hasn't always been possible.
Thank you to everyone for your patience in our time off between shows, we do update here at the site and our Facebook page with news so you can always connect with us online.
Image from Orphan Black Episode 2 Instinct Airs April 6, 2013 Tatiana Maslany as Sarah
Photo Credit: Steve Wilkie
I feel like we just went down the rabbit hole of Orphan Black goodness, and now Season 1 is already at finale time! This amazing series starring Tatiana Maslany in multiple roles including Sarah, Beth, Helena, Cosima and Alison (at the very least) and honestly, she's so good that at times I forget it's all 1 person! If you haven't had a chance to watch the show yet, Space is airing the entire series on Saturday marathon-style up to the season 1 finale. It's a lot darker than I expected going in, but it's very well done and it easily makes the grade to be this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week: Orphan Black Finale and Marathon
The Listener Episode 401 - "Blast From the Past" Airs Wednesday, May 29 at 10 p.m. on CTV
Also Awesome
The Listener Season 4 Premiere Wed May 29, 2013 at 10pm ET on CTV. I am really hoping that The Listener stays in the same spot on the schedule this season, and I have a sneaky feeling I might jump on board The Listener train this summer. In the past it's was very hard to track, but there is always hope for some more schedule stability.
Utopia Finale Thurs May 30, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space. Oh, how I meant to watch this one! Time just got away from me, but this UK conspiracy-thriller following "unconnected people who find themselves in possession of The Utopia Experiments, a legendary graphic novel shrouded in mystery" really sounds awesome to me. Good thing it's been picked up for a second series, and maybe I'll catch up on the second time around!
In the Flesh Finale Saturday June 1, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space. The 3-Parter zombie series comes to a close this weekend. Talk about fast!
