On this weeks episode of Hexed, Suzie and Shannon check in on some of our shows that are currently airing including The Almighty Johnsons, Face Off, Heroes of Cosplay and Paranormal Witness. We also catch up on summer shows Suzie has caught up on, namely Continuum Season 1 and the first season of Orphan Black.
We'll be back next week with more of our regs and especially the Season 2 Premiere of Ghost Mine!
TV Addict "Journey to Haven" article and picks of the set in Chester, Nova Scotia. Also confirms SyFy dates starting Fri 13th of Sept, to Fri 13th of Dec
We are back, for realz this time. Thank you so much for your patience in our absense and understanding of our absence, those who want to know more about our Mom see here.
In our return episode we chat about Summer Paranormal TV, some in depth and spoilery (Almighty Johnsons!) and some very briefly (Being Human UK), but we do touch at least on each of our shows that aired this summer. It's a combination of spoiler-free chats and spoiler filled chats (Defiance, The Almighty Johnsons, Under the Doom, Paranormal Witness and Zero Hour), but we do note if we are going to go spoiler on you.
We hope to be back next week with a discussion on where our fall/winter regulars like Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Grimm and the like ended and what (if any) predictions we have for the upcoming seasons.
Showcase has announced their Fall 2013 Schedule and many of the shows we talk about here at Hexed are on the docket. Beauty and the Beast, Haven and Lost Girl all have debuts in the fall of 2013, and one is earlier, and another is way later, than expected. Let's take a look.
Beauty and the Beast ~ Season 2
Begins Sunday October 6, 2013 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Showcase
One of the big happy surprizes last year was the show Beauty and the Beast, I know I looked forward to watching the beautiful tension grow between Kat and Vincent each and every week. This year we'll actually be getting the show 1 day earlier than the US (don't tell anyone!) as it airs on Sunday as opposed to Monday. I'll take it! Especially considering what happens to one of our other shows (see below).
Before we get ahead of ourselves, let's take a look about what Season 2 will bring for Beauty and the Beast: "The 2013 People's Choice Award-winner for Favourite New Drama, Beauty and the Beast, stars Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan as Det. Catherine Chandler and Dr. Vincent Keller. The first season of the epic romance saw the pair fall in love while hiding from the dangerous organization Muirfield and attempting to solve Cat's mother's murder. Beauty and the Beast returns with more of the shocking revelations and heart-stopping action that kept viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the premiere season."
As each and every episode of Beauty and the Beast is available to watch on the Showcase website, I've created a Spoiler-Free Episode List for those of us who love rewatching the series, or in case you want to jump in and have a taste of what it's like. There is even time to catch up before Season 2 begins for newly intrigued fans.
Lost Girl ~ Season 4
Begins Sunday November 10, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Showcase
We've loved Lost Girl from the very first episode. The sassy humour, amazing female (and male) characters, kick-butt action and sticking to your guns which makes it a sure-fire fae hit in out books. Season 3 was a heavy one, and it looks like that will continue. Want to know more? Here is a look into Season 4:
"Season four of Lost Girl sees fate cast a wide shadow over the Fae world. With Bo's (Anna Silk) return, the lines between Dark and Light fae are blurred causing Bo to venture on a journey of discovery. Bo and company will ultimately realize that regardless of the challenges and enemies they face, they're stronger when they face them together."
If you need to catch up on Lost Girl, or want to dive in for the first time, I have created a Spoiler-Free Episode List so you can watch each and every episode over at the Showcase website. Gotta keep it fae-tastic!
Haven ~ Season 4
Begins Sunday December 1, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase
Haven is another series that we have loved and supported since the very first episode, so I can't mask that I'm very disappointed that we are gettingthe fourth season of the show 2 1/2 months later that it's US airing on SyFy (where it begins September 13, 2013). It was sad enough last year when we were one week behind, but now we will could literally be watching the premiere episode when the finale airs south of the border. If it was an American show I could understand, but being a Canadian/US co-pro that's filmed here, it really makes it hurt. In a time where social media is so involved with TV, it makes avoiding spoilers near impossible and sadly I'll probably have to unfollow all the Haven groups on Facebook and Twitter until we see all of Season 4. At least we can re-watch all three seasons of Haven over at Showcase.ca to keep us busy until new episodes arrive in December.
Putting that aside, let's look ahead into what Season 4 of Haven will bring: "Season 4 of Haven picks up six months after the devastating season three finale when the town was pummeled by a violent meteor storm, that saw Audrey (Emily Rose) and Duke (Eric Balfour) vanish into thin air, and an injured Nathan (Lucas Bryant) left marooned in Haven."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In addition to the release of these premiere dates, it has also been confirmed that Showcase will have the Canadian Broadcast Premiere for the new science fiction series Helix. Here is more about Helix: "Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation."
In addition to these shows, the 2013-2014 Season we will also seeGame of Thrones Season 2 (starts Friday, August 30 at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT) as well as Continuum Season 3 and Defiance Season 2 all on Showcase.
This week even thought we continue to wrap up some of our shows with the finales of the Continuum and Zero Hour. It's feeling like things will start to get pretty quiet on the small screen theses days, but I'm glad that we still have fun shows to enjoy. I'm a little behind the curve on Continuum so I'm planning a fun catch up week in anticipation for this weeks finale (and I'm very thankful you can watch Continuum online at the Showcase website here).
Continuum ~ Season 2 Finale
Sunday August 4, 2013 at 9pm on Showcase
We've chatted about Continuum since it's series debut last summer, and this Canadian science fiction show featuring the time traveller Keira who is stuck in current day Vancouver has been doing really well in it's second season. I can't wait to sit down and chat about it with Suzie! If you are a fan, know that even though Season 2 is wrapping up this week it's not the end. Continuum has been renewed for Season 3 so we will be seeing more.
Also Awesome
Zero Hour ~ Series Finale Saturday August 3, 2013 starting at 8pm EST on Global the final 2 episodes of Zero Hour will air. I've been catching this one off and on during it's burn off and it has gone into some interesting ideas and I definitely plan on watching the finale.
Secret Access: UFOs on the Record ~ Friday August 2, 2013 from 8 - 10pm ET/PT on History; described as "Numerous credible witnesses support some sightings of mysterious UFOs." Sounds pretty intriguing to me!
I'm thrilled we will be seeing more Continuum, and it's so s exciting to see an intelligent science fiction shows with great acting and lots of Canadian talent get the credit it's due. And we still have lots of Season 2 of Continuum to enjoy over at Showcase throughout the summer. Woohoo!
Hey Everyone! It's been a while but Suzie and Shannon are back and we are looking back at the new shows that debuted during the 2012/13 season that were either paranormal, or thought to be at one point possibly paranormal (some are hard to tell before they start!). We share of if the shows that have been renewed or cancelled and weight in on if we are happy (or not) with that decision. We also dive into not only fall start, but also winter start shows and share our thoughts on a few shows that have even started recently including a lenghty discussion on Defiance and being quite impressed with the oddness of Hemlock Grove. And our photo this week Suzie took with her awesome camera of the Full Flower May Moon! Isn't it beautiful?
Many of the cancelled shows will have their remaining episodes air starting in June, including Cult, 666 Park Avenue and Zero Hour. You can see a full schedule here, and they will also be in our June New and Returning post up later this week. We hope to be back soon to check in on how our regs finished out their seasons, things have been rather challenging for us so keeping up with TV hasn't always been possible.
Thank you to everyone for your patience in our time off between shows, we do update here at the site and our Facebook page with news so you can always connect with us online.
Lexa Doig as Sonya Valentine, Stephen Lobo as Matthew Kellog, Roger Cross as Travis Verta,
I've we re-watching Season 1 to get prepared (see my spoiler-free episode list to all of the Season 1 episodes that you can watch online at Showcase.ca and Continuumtheseries.com); but now it's time to live in the now! Or the future. Or the now? Dang it, time travel shows can be so confusing!
Here's a bit of a look at tonight's Season 2 Opener: "In search for answers, Kiera continues her uneasy alliance with Detective Carlos Fonnegra (Webster), and season two sees her grapple with the big question that closed the first season – why was she sent back in time? While Alec (Knudsen) struggles to understand the implications of the mysterious message he received from his future self, the Liber8 terrorists become more strategic and even more lethal as they seek to ward off what they see as the seeds of a disastrous future.
In the season two premiere entitled "Second Chances," an in-hiding Kiera must resurface and reunite with Carlos to solve a murder when the Mayor is killed in a brazen assassination. Defiance ~ Series Premiere
Monday April 15, 2013 at 10pm on Showcase
Series Description: "Set in the near future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth, its landscapes permanently altered following the sudden – and tumultuous – arrival of seven unique alien races. In this somewhat unknown and unpredictable landscape, the richly diverse, newly formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully. Each week, viewers will follow an immersive character drama set in the boom-town of Defiance, which sits atop the ruins of St. Louis, MO, while in the game, players will adventure in the new frontier of the San Francisco Bay area. The dramatic tapestry of the series and the intense action of the game will exist in a single universe where their respective narratives will inform one another and evolve together into one overall story."
Defiance is a Canadian/US co-production of 13 episodes and stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene and Mia Kirshner.
Continuum ~ Season 2 Premiere
Sunday April 21, 2013 at 9pm on Showcase
Suzie and I really enjoyed watching and podcasting through Continuum's first season last summer. It is so cool to see a Canadian-produced, Canadian-set awesome science fiction series. And with a female lead who kicks butt to boot. The show has a great science fiction angle with time travel as well as the power of subtle social skills and even some political commentary. Plus, it's smart and a lot of fun. I'm very curious to see where things go in Season 2. If you need to catch up with Season 1? I've created a spoiler-free episode list to all of the Season 1 episodes that you can watch online at Showcase.ca and Continuumtheseries.com.
Hemlock Grove begins on Netflix (all territories) this Friday April 19, 2013. I'm really curious to see this one in and experience the Netflix format. Find out more about Hemlock Grove at Netflix.com.
Cast of Hannibal: Hugh Dancy, Caroline Dhavernas, Laurence Fishburne, Aaron Abrams, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Hettienne Park, Scott Thompson and Mads Mikkelsen (Image Source)
April is a pretty impressive month for new and returning shows. Showcase will be bringing us not one but two science fiction shows with the debut of the multi-platformed Defiance show and online game plus we will also enter into the second season of the Vancouver set Continuum.
The innovation theme continues with Hemlock Grove which is a Netflix original series that will debut concurrently across the globe to all territories where Netflix is available. To start the month off we break with pattern as I included a horror/thriller series with the debut of Hannibal starring Mads Mikkelsen (Valhalla Rising) and Hugh Dancy (Blood and Chocolate). Let's hear it for April 2013!
Hannibal ~ Series Premiere
Thursday April 4, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on CityTV
Genre: Horror/Thriller
Okay, I'm kind of cheating including Hannibal with our April shows, but horror isn't too far off and last month we included Bates Motel which is similar in nature to Hannibal as both are prequels of horrific stories. Besides, I'm completely thrilled to see the magnificent Mads Mikkelsen and the wonderful Hugh Dancy on TV that I will break my "no serial killers show" rule to check this one out.
Series Description: "Will Graham is a gifted criminal profiler who is on the hunt for a serial killer with the FBI. Graham’s unique way of thinking gives him the astonishing ability to empathize with anyone – even psychopaths. He seems to know what makes them tick. But when the mind of the twisted killer he’s pursuing is too complicated for even Will to comprehend, he enlists the help of Dr. Lecter, one of the premier psychiatric minds in the country. Armed with the uncanny expertise of the brilliant doctor, Will and Hannibal (known as a serial killer only to the audience) form a brilliant partnership and it seems there’s no villain they can’t catch. If Will only knew…"
Hannibal is an American series and season 1 will have 13 episodes; the show stars Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelsen, Caroline Dhavernas and Laurence Fishburne.
Defiance ~ Series Premiere
Monday April 15, 2013 at 10pm on Showcase
Genre: Science Fiction
I'm still mystified by the whole game and show part of Defiance, and I don't think I'll 'get' that until I seen and/or experience it. Putting that to the side, I'm so excited to see an actual science fiction series with aliens! Doesn't if feel like forever since we've had that? The show looks slick, the make up and design look amazing and I'm a fan of several of the actors. I can't wait! Thank goodness this happens after Monday nights free up after the Being Human (North American) and Almighty Johnsons wrap up for their respective seasons.
Series Description: "An unprecedented approach to storytelling, Defiance will unite scripted television and online gaming for the very first time. Both the series and the game feature an interconnected world and storylines that will launch in early April with the release of the game and continue seamlessly with the series premiere on the 15th.
Set in the near future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth, its landscapes permanently altered following the sudden – and tumultuous – arrival of seven unique alien races. In this somewhat unknown and unpredictable landscape, the richly diverse, newly formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully. Each week, viewers will follow an immersive character drama set in the boom-town of Defiance, which sits atop the ruins of St. Louis, MO, while in the game, players will adventure in the new frontier of the San Francisco Bay area. The dramatic tapestry of the series and the intense action of the game will exist in a single universe where their respective narratives will inform one another and evolve together into one overall story."
Defiance is a Canadian/US co-production of 13 episodes and stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene and Mia Kirshner.
Hemlock Grove ~ Series Premiere
Friday April 19, 2013 on Netflix
Genre: Paranormal/Horror/Thriller
When I first heard about Hemlock Grove it was described as Twin Peaks meets Supernatural, and right then and there I knew I had to check it out. I'm also very curious about the whole airing on Netflix thing, and as a very recent Netflix-er I'm thrilled I will be able to see it! I love that it's debuting concurrently in all territories that Netflix is available including U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, Brazil and Scandinavia. That's awesome. That's so where we are now, being broadcasted at the same time is the best choice for the viewers. We want to see it, and you give us a way *to* see it. Yay!
Series Description: "After a teenage girl is mauled to death on the outskirts of Hemlock Grove, dark secrets and deep passions emerge. As authorities seek the killer, two suspects from rival families take matters into their own hands. Will they find a man or a monster?"
Hemlock Grove is an American series based on the book by Brian McGreevy and stars Famke Janssen, Bill Skarsgård, Landon Liboiron, Penelope Mitchell, Freya Tingley, Dougray Scott, Lili Taylor and Nicole Boivin. It looks like it's 12 episodes (per IMDB).
Continuum ~ Season 2 Premiere
Sunday April 21, 2013 at 9pm on Showcase
Suzie and I really enjoyed watching and podcasting through Continuum's first season last summer. It is so cool to see a Canadian-produced, Canadian-set awesome science fiction series. Plus, it's smart and a lot of fun. I'm very curious to see where things go in Season 2.
Series Description: "Continuum is a one-hour police drama centered on Kiera Cameron, a regular cop from 65 years in the future who finds herself trapped in present day Vancouver. She is alone, a stranger in a strange land, and has eight of the most ruthless criminals from the future, known as Liber8, loose in the city."
Continuum is a Canadian series which stars Rachel Nichols, Erik Knudsen, Victor Webster, Stephen Lobo, Jennifer Spence and Tony Amendola; Season 2 will have 13 episodes.
That's right folks, it's time to share when the science fiction Vancouver-set (future and present!) series Continuum is coming back for Season 2: Sunday April 21, 2013 (9pm ET/PT) on Showcase.
It was just recently announced from Rachel Nichols herself in a video (see below) the start date of Continuum is just month when we will start the journey through the 13-episodes of Season 2.
Here is more about Continuum and the Season 2 Premiere: "Debuting to over 1 million viewers (2+)*, the first season of the critically acclaimed series saw Kiera Cameron (Nichols) searching for convicted terrorists from the future, known as Liber8, with the help of Vancouver detective, Carlos Fonnegra (Victor Webster; Castle). With unexpected assistance from teen tech genius Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen; Scream 4), Kiera desperately tried to bring down the terrorists before they changed the course of history forever in the explosive finale.
In search for answers, the highly anticipated sophomore season continues Kiera’s uneasy alliance with Detective Carlos Fonnegra, and sees her grapple with the big question that closed the first season – why was she sent there? While Alec struggles to understand the implications of the mysterious message he received from his future self, the Liber8 terrorists become more strategic and even more lethal as they seek to ward off what they see as the seeds of a disastrous future.
Rounding out the cast are Stephen Lobo (Smallville, Little Mosque On The Prairie), Roger Cross (Fringe, Arrow), Lexa Doig (V, Stargate SG-I), Omari Newton (Blue Mountain State, Sophie) and Luvia Petersen (The L Word)."
