It's quite a busy week for season and series premieres, but I'm kicking old-school for the choice of Paranormal Pick of the Week to keep it to our roots of sibling goodness of the Winchester brothers (& co.) who return in their ninth season. That's right. Ninth season.
Supernatural ~ Season 9 Premiere
Tuesday October 8, 2013 on CHCH and The CW
~and~
Friday October 11, 2013 on 7pm on M3
Here is a little bit about Season 9 (fair warning: it may contain spoilers!):
"Dean (Jensen Ackles) is frantic after Sam (Jared Padalecki) collapses and the doctor tells Dean his brother won’t make it. Desperate, Dean sends out an all-points bulletin via prayer to every angel in the area, asking them to help his brother. In exchange, Dean owes that angel a favour. Numerous angry angels race to find and kill Dean, but one, Ezekiel (guest star Tahmoh Penikett, Man of Steel), gets to him first. Meanwhile, Sam fights for his life and must face some familiar demons to do so. Castiel (Misha Collins) struggles to survive without powers."

The Tomorrow People Series Premiere Wednesday October 9, 2013 at 7pm on CTV and 9pm on The CW. I'm really looking forward to this one, and even though it's a redux of a 70's show it also sounds a lot like Alphas. But, if it's awesome - I don't care what it reminds me of!
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Series Premiere Thursday October 10, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT on CityTV and ABC. I haven't watched Once Upon A Time before but I think I'm going to jump down the rabbit hole and check out this spin-off series.
The Walking Dead Season 4 Premiere Sunday October 13, 2013 at 9pm/8pm C on AMC. I think we're all looking forward to the return of our favourite zombie series. After a harrowing Season 3 I'm a little scared at where they could even go this year.
Image Source I know it's still 6 days away but since it's already felt like the longest hiatus ever, why not start the countdown to the returns of Season 3 of The Walking Dead? I'm psyched to see how they will continue from the crazy mid-season finale back in early December. If it can complete with a chocolate-covered holiday, it was clearly the pick for this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week:
The Walking Dead - Season 3 Returns
Sunday February 10, 2013 on AMC Canada
Space is airing tons of fun movies on the weekend including Camel Spiders on Saturday February 9, 2013 at 10:15pm; here's the description: "Soldiers escape a deadly attack but accidently transport several camel spiders with them to the American southwest. An Army Captain (Brian Krause, CASTLE), a small-town Sheriff (C. Thomas Howell, SOUTHLAND), and a desperate group of locals and tourists must survive a frightening infestation of crawling carnage." It's a lot of fun, I was particularly impressed with the how entertaining C. Thomas Howell is in the film.
February. It's the shortest month and we've got Valentine's Day. For TV, it used to be a very dry month but with schedules and formats changing and falling into new patterns that's not the case any more. We have new shows, returning shows and even one show that doesn't quite fit either mold but are awesome none the less. Although February doesn't have as much new as January did, it does have a lot to enjoy. Including the return of The Walking Dead. Brains.....
Do No Harm - Series Premiere
Friday Feb 1, 2013 at 9pm EST on Space
If you didn't catch the series premiere Jan 31, 2013 on CTV you are in luck as the Jekyll and Hyde inspired series Do No Harm also has a home on Space Fridays at 9pm. The series stars Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me) as a neurosurgeon with an alternate personality that he chemically tries to keep under wraps. Although it may not be strictly paranormal, it certainly might be scary and it's inspired by Jekyll and Hyde so I'm definitely curious.
Here's more on the series premise: "Respected neurosurgeon Dr. Jason Cole has it all: a great job, a winning personality -- and a dangerous alternate personality. For years Jason has been able to keep his other self -- a devious, borderline sociopath who goes by the name of Ian -- in a chemical prison with a powerful sedative, but his body has developed a resistance, allowing Ian to escape. And Ian is angry about the time he has lost. With so much to lose, Jason must find a way to stop Ian from destroying everything that Jason has worked so hard to build."

The Walking Dead - Season 3 Returns
Feb 10, 2013 on AMC Canada
It feels like it's been forever since we hit the gripping mid-season finale in this third season of The Walking Dead. I know I can run hot and cold on the show depending on the season, but there is no question in my mind that the third season has been spectacular. AMC's hit zombie series debuted all the way back in Halloween 2010 has skyrocket ratings, bringing new and old zombie fans out of the woodwork in scary masses.
We occasionally check in on this one on the podcast, but have been pretty actively talking about it through Season 3 so I know Suzie and I will be so happy to see it back on the air with new episodes. See all Hexed podcasts and posts where we’ve discussed The Walking Dead here.
It's been a while since we've had a good conspiracy series, but Zero Hour looks like it might fit that bill with an editor of a skeptic magazine, centuries old mysteries and it looks like a paranormal connection. I know I can't wait to check it out. Zero Hour stars Anthony Edwards, Carmen Ejogo, Scott Michael Foster, Addison Timlin, Jacinda Barrett and Michael Nyqvist.
Here is the series premise: "Hank Galliston is a self-professed paranormal junkie, but his experience is mainly limited to his magazine Modern Skeptic until the day his wife is abducted from her antique clock shop, pulling him into a mystery that stretches around the globe and over centuries. Hank learns that one of his wife's clocks contains a treasure map that may lead to something cataclysmic, and he must unlock its secrets while making sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Hank's associates, Rachel and Arron, and FBI agent Becca Riley join him as he races against time to find his wife and save humanity."
We chatted about Cult way back last February when it was first announced and again when it was noted as a mid season show and honestly the pull for me was that there was a blogger character, which now isn't quite at the forefront. It's about a show called Cult, that's about cults with lots of followers. I wonder if there will be any too-close-to-feeling-like-The Following, but I think they are going for different audiences. All that being said it still sounds very interesting and I adore many of the actors involved, so I know I'll be checking it out. It's a CW show, but will be airing here in Canada on CTV2.
Cult stars Matt Davis (Alaric on Vampire Diaries), Jessica Lucas, Alona Tal (Jo on Supernatural) and Robert Knepper (T-Bag on Prison Break).
Here is a series description: "Investigative journalist Jeff Sefton has learned to laugh off his brother Nate's relentless string of obsessions, especially his latest rant that a hit TV show intends to harm him. However, when his brother mysteriously disappears, Jeff takes Nate's paranoia seriously, and in the process uncovers the dark underworld of the TV show Cult and its rabid fans. The only person who seems willing to help Jeff with his investigation is Skye, a young research assistant for "Cult," who has also started to grow suspicious of the increasingly dark happenings surrounding the show. he fictitious show, centered on the cat-and-mouse game between charismatic cult leader Billy Grimm and LAPD detective Kelly Collins, has become an obsession for its viewers – and now some of its devotees seem to be taking their fixation to deadly extremes in the real world. As Jeff and Skye dig deeper into the fan world, they discover that the gruesome plot twists on television are much more than fantasy for some very unfortunate people. The hardcore fans of Cult would kill to see what happens next..."
Stranded is a non-fiction show that has paranormal enthusiasts who self record footage of an overnight stay at a haunted location. It's created by Destination Truth's Josh Gates and looks like a really interesting addition to the roster of non-fiction paranormal shows. I can't wait to check it out.
Here is a series description: "Created by Josh Gates (Destination Truth), Stranded is an all-new reality series that documents an unconventional – and terrifying – paranormal and psychological experiment. Each episode features the self-recorded footage of a diverse group of every-day paranormal enthusiasts - from newlyweds and a brother-in-law to a trio of roommates. Each team of three will be stranded at one of the most haunted locations in America and record the entire experience with hand-held cameras creating a suspenseful, completely unscripted first-hand account of each group's stay. Over the course of the confinement, the group will cope with increasingly pervasive feelings of fear and desolation, resulting in an experiment that represents a unique combination of psychology and the paranormal."
Although it's neither new nor returning in this carnation, but it's still awesome. If you want to catch up on Game of Thrones from the beginning, Showcase is starting to air the series as of February 15, 2013.
As it's December it's time when a lot of our shows wrap up for the calender year, but this year before they do we are getting the treat of some holiday episodes, and this week both Vampire Diaries & Arrow turn on the holiday cheer making them our Paranormal Picks of the Week: Vampire Diaries Season 4 Holiday Episode

Saturday November 10, 2012 at 8pm ET on Space
Although Season 2 of Bedlam has had an (almost) completely different cast than Season 1, Bedlam it certainly has grown on me this season and I'm very curious to how they will wrap it all up. We have chatted about it on Hexed occasionally and it's nice to have a haunted house style show on to enjoy, which makes it this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week. If you need to catch up on any episodes, you can watch them online over at Space's Website.
King Kong (1933) - Sat Nov 10, 2012 at 1:15pm on TCM Canada, that's right the classic monster movie with the giant pre-historic ape. If you've not seen it, watching it on a Saturday afternoon is a perfect time to add it to your viewing card.
Earthquake (1974) - Sat Nov 10, 2012 at 5:00pm on AMC Canada, this is one 70's disaster movies that I'm not sure I've seen so I'm super keen to check it out this weekend! It stars Ava Gardner, Barry Sullivan, Charlton Heston and Geneviève Bujold and is directed by Mark Robson.
The Man with No Name Trilogy - Although it's not paranormal, I can't help but share that this awesome western trilogy starring Clint Eastwood will be airing on TCM Canada on Friday November 9, 2012 starting at 8pm. That's right, they are airing A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More *and* The Good, The Bad and The Ugly back to back to back. What a treat!
Well, we've survived the barrage of new show premieres and now it's time to get our scares on with some countdown to Halloween spirit. Thank goodness AMC stepped up to the plate providing us with plethora of Jason permutations in the Friday the 13th Films. With so many to choose from, the Friday the 13ths on AMC is the Paranormal Pick of the Week:
Primeval Season 4 Marathon: Sunday October 21, 2012 from 11am - 6pm EST on Space; I've been loving catching up with the series marathon style and am eagerly awaiting more dinosaur & anomaly goodness.
Spooky Movies on TCMCanada Wednesday October 17, 2012 - TCM is airing scary movies all evening and all through the night with Horror of Dracula, the Curse of Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Gorgon, The Devil's Bride and The Plague of Zombies. That's a lot of monsters (and their families...) see schedule here.
American Horror Story Season 2 / Asylum beings on FX Canada on Wednesday October 17, 2012. We tried this one out in Season 1 and didn't take to it, but I'm happy to see it is again available here in Canada on FX Canada although I still can't tell what it's being branded under 2 titles of Asylum and also American Horror Story. It's a mystery - which seems to be quite fitting for the show.
Vampires, Zombies, Superheros and Creatures galore!! It's a busy week of show premieres with Beauty and the Beast & Arrow debuting, as well as the return of The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead. With so many amazing shows returning and new hopefuls starting, we can't help but includes so many of them as the Paranormal Pick(s) of the Week.
With so many shows on now I was happy to see a healthy amount of repeats, especially for Vampire Diaries & Arrow which have repeat airings early on Friday nights on MuchMusic. That's smart programming. We also have some Falling Skies making it's Canadian debut and True Blood Season 4 beginning on Space. Plus, scary movies The following corresponds to Canadian air dates, but please remember to always check your local listings.
The Vampire Diaries - Season 4 Premiere
Thursday October 11, 2012 at 8pm on CTV
Repeat airing Fridays at 8pm on MuchMusic
The Vampire Diaries holds the honour of being a show that we've talked about
since our very first podcast when Vampire Diaries was still in its
first season. Although we can harp on it being jammed packed with so
much content it's hard to catch everything, and it's certainly gotten harsher over the years, but we still catch it every week (just tone down the torture, would ya?). The series is a spin
off from the books by L.J. Smith and follows a human girl who has the
same appearance of who stole the hearts of a duo of vampire brothers.
Lots of supernatural content of many ilks: high school drama, historical
flashbacks, lots of romances and bucket loads of social events the show
has won over a very dedicated fan base. See podcasts & posts discussing Vampire Diaries here.
The Walking Dead - Season 3 Premiere
Sunday October 14, 2012 at 9pm on AMC
If you need to catch up or want to dive into The Walking Dead for the first time, AMC is re-airing the entire series up until the Season 3 premiere. See Season 1 on Saturday October 13, 2012 starting from 10am; Season 2 re-airs as of Saturday October 13, 2012 at 4:53pm as well as Sunday October 14, 2012 6:51am.
We only check in on this one occasionally and we’ve both had strong feelings in both directions on this on, although
we both came to enjoy it more in Season 2. Who knows, maybe it will get added to this years talking roster! See all podcasts and posts where we’ve discussed The Walking Dead here.
Arrow - Series Premiere
Wednesday October 10, 2012 at 8pm on CTV two
Repeat airing Fridays at 8pm on MuchMusic
Arrow is a new CW series is a "modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow." starring Stephen
Amell (Heartland, Private Practice), Colin Donnell, Katie Cassidy (S3
Ruby on Supernatural), David Ramsey, Willa Holland, with Susanna
Thompson and Paul Blackthorne (The Gates, The Dresdin Files, The River). I know this is one of my most anticipated new series of the fall 2012 season, and Suzie & I will be sure to chat about it on the podcast. See all podcasts and posts where we've discussed Arrow so far here.
Beauty and the Beast - Series Premiere
Thursday October 11, 2012 at 9pm on Showcase
Repeats Friday at 6pm on Showcase
Another CW series, and it won out over the 2 Beauty and the Beast series between The CW and ABC. This one is "loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Linda Hamilton, Beauty
And The Beast is a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural
twist." and stars Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) and Jay Ryan (Terra Nova). I'm a little more skeptical of this one, and keep trying not to hold the fact that it's taking the timeslot of Secret Circle, but a strong female protagonist and the nouveau gothic vibe to it, I definitely want to check it out. I'm sure we will chat about it on Hexed, and you cans see all podcasts and posts where we've discussed Beauty and the Beast so far here.
Also Awesome Picks:
Falling Skies - Season 1 Begins on SpaceMonday October 8, 2012 at 9PM. If we weren't over a year behind on Falling Skies, this would TOTALLY be my #1 pick this week. I'm super exciting that it will finally begin to air here in Canada.
True Blood - Season 4 Begins on Space Sunday October 14, 2012 at 10pm ET; although it first aired on HBO Canada last summer, if you haven't seen Season 4 now you can catch up on Space (I might do this myself as I'm very behind on my True Blood viewing!).
Haunted House Movies on TCMCanadaWednesday October 10, 2012 - TCM is airing an awesome line of creepy movies including one of my favourite movies and scary haunted house movie The Haunting, plus The Haunting of Hill House, the Uninvited and more into the wee hours of the night. Looks like an awesome selection. See schedule here.
Stephen King films on AMC Canada Thursday October 11, 2012 & Friday October 12, 2012- Talk about an amazing line up from The Dead Zone, The Graveyard Shift, Thinner Christine, Cujo, Pet Sematary & Pet Sematary II. See schedule here.
Image - Cast of The River: Bruce Greenwood as Emmet Cole, Joe Anderson as Lincoln Cole, Paul Blackthorne as Clark, Paulina Gaitan as Jahel, Leslie Hope as Tess Cole, Eloise Mumford as Lena, Shaun Parkes as Adjay, Thomas Kretschmann as Captain Kurt Brynion and Daniel Zacapa as Emilio.
Suzie & I have chatted excitedly about the trailer of the upcoming TV show The River from Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli, and now the time is upon us to see if it's as good as it looks with the series starting this Tuesday. It certainly appears to have a spooky vibe, shakycam style, and sure to have emotional connect as it follows family members trying to find each other. Plus, we are still hyped and hoping that it will be paranormal in nature. Not too much longer before we know for sure!
The River series premieres this Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 on CTV at 9 p.m.
The Walking Dead
AMC's hit zombie series comes back with new season 2 episodes this Sunday February 12, 2012 and is it just me or did that hiatus seem *way* too long? We've both had strong feelings in both directions on this on, although Suzie has decided she likes the show and Shannon is swaying back in that direction as well especially after the mid-season finale for season 2. I'm sure they swing back into things with a timely Valentine's episode! Perhaps not. But, there could be arrows to the heart, crossbow arrows that is.
More happy news for The Walking Dead is that it's season 3 is not only in the works but it's also going to be a whopping 16 episodes, in comparison to season 1 which had 6 eps and season 2 which will air 13 episodes.
If you need to catch up on the season or the series? You are in luck, AMC is re-airing both season 1 in it's entirety as well as season 2 so far: Season 1: Saturday February 11, 2012 starting at 8PM EST Season 2: Sunday February 12, 2012 starting at 1:30 PM EST with new episode at 9PM EST
Suzie & Shannon are your intrepid hosts through supernatural tv, all the time. We podcast through Grimm, Vampire Diaries, Haven, Supernatural, Lost Girl, Alphas, Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files & so many more. We always look forward to new paranormal TV!
