Outlander Coming to Showcase in 2014

Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser in Outlander, coming to Showcase in 2014

At times, I shy away from sharing info on a new series until we have know it will be airing on a Canadian broadcaster. That is exactly what happened with Outlander, whose home channel is Starz but now we know it will have it's Canadian Broadcast Premiere on Showcase in 2014 it's time to bask in the Outlander love.

If you are unfamiliar with Outlander, it's an upcoming TV series based on the time-travelling historical/adventure/romance novels by Diana Gabaldon. Much like Bitten, everyone I know who ever started the novels has been swept into the world of the book and absolutely adores them. I've been tempted to dive into this female-protagnoist time-travelling romance novels myself, and might see if I can read them before the series starts. Who those who are familiar, the protagonist Claire Randal will be played by Caitriona Balfe, and Sam Heughan will play Jamie Fraser. Outlander also stars Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish and Gary Lewis.

Here is more about the show:

"Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history and adventure in one epic tale. It follows the story of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe; Escape Plan), a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan; Batman Live), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. Adapted from Diana Gabaldon's international best-selling books, Outlander is executive-produced by Emmy® Award-winner Ronald D. Moore, and also stars Tobias Menzies as Frank Randall/Jonathan "Black Jack" Randall, Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie, Gary Lewis as Colum MacKenzie, Lotte Verbeek as Geillis Duncan, Duncan Lacroix as Murtagh FitzGibbons Fraser, Annette Badland as Mrs. FitzGibbons and Stephen Walters as Angus Mhor."

Outlander has a 16-episodes order. See more at Outlander website, Wikipedia page and for the image happy folks check out their Instagram stream.

Showcase is spoiling us silly this week with the premieres of two of our long-term favourite shows coming back for their fourth, fabulous seasons. That's right, both Haven and Lost Girl start back up this week and we can't choose between two of the shows that we've been chatting about since 2010 so they are sharing the spotlight of the Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Also Awesome:

• Face Off Season 5 Finale - Tuesday November 5, 2013 at 9pm on Space. I can't believe it is already coming to an end! This seasons twist of Vets vs Newcomers has proved very interesting indeed and the make up artists have created some absolutely stunning works of art. I'm going to be sad when it's over (although Season 6 has been announced). I have no clue who will win, but it's been such a talented group of people this year, I would be happy no matter who it will be.

November 2013 Paranomal TV New and Returning Air Dates

November is hear and as we get closer to the end of the year, we still have tons of awesome shows and specials premiering. This month we have the new science fiction series Almost Human starring Karl Urban and Micheal Ealy as reluctant cop partners in a human and robot filled world. We also have a few specials in store including the big 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who special as well as Face Off's Judges' Favourites Special which looks like so much fun. In the non-fiction realm we have the Haunted Highway return for it's second season. Last but certainly not least, two of our favourite shows are returning for their fourth seasons: Haven and Lost Girl.

For the Spoiler-Sensitive: several of the returning series have *season* descriptions, so read with caution if you don't want to know where the shows are going this year.

We've also had a lot of revisions in dates this month too, as Haven is now starting earlier than initially anticipated but Almost Human will now be airing closer to the end of the month. As always, we'll share if we find out any more date changes but always be sure to check your local listings.

Detective John Kennex (Karl Urban, The Bourne Supremacy) survived a catastrophic attack on the city's police department that cost him his friends, one of his limbs and his reputation. When he returns a year later, he finds the transition difficult. Not only does one of the surviving detectives, Richard Paul (Michael Irby, Flight Plan) blame him for the lethal ambush, but department policy now requires that every cop be paired with a highly-evolved human-like android partner. Instead, Kennex works with lab technician Rudy Lom (MacKenzie Crook, Game of Thrones) to reinstate an outdated Dorian android (Michael Ealy, The Good Wife) whose somewhat dysfunctional platform is based on a "Synthetic Soul" program, allowing it to have emotional responses. Together, the two set out to keep the city safe and uncover the criminal conspiracy that threatens to destroy their world."

Haven Season 4 Begins Friday November 8, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase (Updated Date)

I'm so excited to share that we will be returning to Haven earlier than the previously announced December 2013 return date. That's right, Haven Season 4 will premiere on Friday November 8, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase.

Here are the details and some information on Season 4:

"Season 4 of HAVEN will now premiere on Friday, November 8 at 9PM ET/PT.

Haven Season 4 Synopsis:

Premieres Friday, November 8 at 9PM ET/PT

Season 4 of Haven picks up six months after the devastating events of the Season 3 cliffhanger in which the town was pummeled by a violent meteor storm. Audrey (Emily Rose) and Duke (Eric Balfour) vanished into thin air leaving an injured Nathan (Lucas Bryant) marooned in Haven. Rounding out the cast are Adam Copeland, Richard Donat, John Dunsworth and Kate Kelton, and recurring guest star Colin Ferguson."

Here at Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural we've been fans and supporters of Haven since it's very first episode back in the Summer of 2010, and I'll be honest we got pretty miffy that Season 4 wasn't airing here so much later than the US airing on SyFy.   It's not in tandem, but now it will be earlier and I'll take that as good news any day! See podcasts & posts discussing Haven here.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Supernatural Season 9 Premiere

It's quite a busy week for season and series premieres, but I'm kicking old-school for the choice of Paranormal Pick of the Week to keep it to our roots of sibling goodness of the Winchester brothers (& co.) who return in their ninth season. That's right. Ninth season.

Supernatural ~ Season 9 Premiere
Tuesday October 8, 2013 on CHCH and The CW
~and~
Friday October 11, 2013 on 7pm on M3

Here is a little bit about Season 9 (fair warning: it may contain spoilers!):

"Dean (Jensen Ackles) is frantic after Sam (Jared Padalecki) collapses and the doctor tells Dean his brother won’t make it. Desperate, Dean sends out an all-points bulletin via prayer to every angel in the area, asking them to help his brother. In exchange, Dean owes that angel a favour. Numerous angry angels race to find and kill Dean, but one, Ezekiel (guest star Tahmoh Penikett, Man of Steel), gets to him first. Meanwhile, Sam fights for his life and must face some familiar demons to do so. Castiel (Misha Collins) struggles to survive without powers."

Also Awesome

• The Tomorrow People Series Premiere Wednesday October 9, 2013 at 7pm on CTV and 9pm on The CW.  I'm really looking forward to this one, and even though it's a redux of a 70's show it also sounds a lot like Alphas. But, if it's awesome - I don't care what it reminds me of!
• Once Upon a Time in Wonderland Series Premiere Thursday October 10, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT on CityTV and ABC.   I haven't watched Once Upon A Time before but I think I'm going to jump down the rabbit hole and check out this spin-off series.
• The Walking Dead Season 4 Premiere Sunday October 13, 2013 at 9pm/8pm C on AMC. I think we're all looking forward to the return of our favourite zombie series.  After a harrowing Season 3 I'm a little scared at where they could even go this year.

Paranormal Picks of the Week: Series Premieres of The Originals and Witches of East End

This week is when we start to see The CW roll out it's TV season including the new series The Originals which was picked up by CHCH (Thank you CHCH!). I would have loved to include The Vampire Diaries as a double bill night of vampire awesomeness with our pick of the week, but the Canadian airing on CTV Two doesn't happen until Sundays at 8pm.  If you happen to get The CW, you can watch them back to back. On a happier note, we will be getting Beauty and the Beast a day early, it's second season begins this Sunday Oct 6, 2013 on Showcase.

It was too hard to choose which (or witch) show to be this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week with this week so I decided to included both new series of The Originals and Witches of East End which we just recently found out will be airing on Lifetime Canada.  Have a blessed TV Week!

The Originals - Series Premiere
Thursday Oct 3, 2013 at 9pm on CHCH and The CW *

Here is a little bit about The Originals: "An offshoot of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world’s original vampires: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).

The Original Vampire family pledge to remain together, but now their bonds of family are broken and Klaus reacts to an anonymous tip that someone is plotting against the family in the place they helped build, New Orleans."

*Please note it's regular timeslot is Tuesday at 8pm on both CHCH and The CW starting next Tuesday October 8, 2013.

Witches Of East End ~ Series Premiere
Sunday October 6, 2013 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Lifetime Canada

Series Description: Based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling novel, Witches of East End follows Joanna Beauchamp (Julia Ormond) and her two adult daughters Freya (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid (Rachel Boston) whom, unbeknownst to them, are their family’s next generation of witches. Leading ordinary modern day lives in Long Island’s secluded seaside town of East Haven, when Freya becomes engaged to a wealthy newcomer, a series of events forces Joanna to admit to her daughters they are powerful and immortal witches.

Also Awesome

• Vampire Diaries Season 5 Premiere Sunday October 6, 2013 at 8pm on CTV Two (also airs Thursday Oct 3, 2013 at 8pm on The CW); it will be interesting to see how the show fairs in this timeslot 3 days after it's US airing and also how things go now that a portion of the cast will be on the spin off series The Originals.  I'm looking forward to some old school Vampire Diaries craziness myself.
• Beauty and the Beast Season 2 Premiere Sunday October 6, 2013 at 8pm on Showcase (also airs Monday Oct 7, 2013 at 9pm on The CW).  This was definitely one of the happy surprizes of 2012 and I always looked forward to the show.  If you haven't watched it yet you can see the whole thing online over at Showcase.ca (or see my spoiler-free episode list here).
• Arrow Season 1 Recap Wednesday October 2, 2013 at 8pm on CTV and The CW; although season 2 of Arrow doesn't start back up until next week we can all take a refresher course with this Season 1 recap episode.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Game of Thrones Season 2 Begins on Showcase

This weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week is for those of us who are just warming up to the whole Winter is Coming thing. Yep, I'm talking Game of Thrones. Showcase is catching us up with the series in the cable premiere of Season 2.  And for the PVR-folks, remember this runs longer than an hour so check your listings and set your timers appropriately.

Game of Thrones (Season 2)
Begins Fri Aug 30, 2013 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Showcase

Here's a look into Season 2 of Game of Thrones:

"With tensions and treaties, animosity and alliances, Season 2 of Game of Thrones is a thrilling journey through a riveting, unforgettable fictional landscape based on George R.R. Martin's bestselling novel A Clash of Kings. In Kings Landing, the coveted Iron Throne is occupied by cruel young Joffrey (Jack Gleeson), counseled by his conniving mother Cersei (Lena Headey) and uncle Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), who has been appointed Hand of the King. But the Lannister hold on the Throne is under assault on many fronts. There's Robb Stark (Richard Madden), son of the slain Lord of Winterfell Ned Stark, who seeks autonomy in the north and has taken Cersei's brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) prisoner in battle; Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), looking to shore up her depleted power in the east through three newborn dragons; Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), brother of the late king Robert, who rejects Joffrey's legitimacy and aligns with a powerful priestess to raise a naval attack; Stannis' brother Renly (Gethin Anthony), who has maintained his own claim since fleeing Kings Landing; and Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), who was raised by the Starks, but whose blood ties in his native Iron Islands runs deep. In the meantime, a new leader is rising among the wildings outside the Wall, adding new perils for Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and the order of the Night's Watch."

Showcase Fall 2013 Premiere Dates for Beauty and the Beast, Lost Girl and Haven

Showcase has announced their Fall 2013 Schedule and many of the shows we talk about here at Hexed are on the docket. Beauty and the Beast, Haven and Lost Girl all have debuts in the fall of 2013, and one is earlier, and another is way later, than expected. Let's take a look.

Beauty and the Beast ~ Season 2Begins Sunday October 6, 2013 at 8pm ET/5pm PT on Showcase

One of the big happy surprizes last year was the show Beauty and the Beast, I know I looked forward to watching the beautiful tension grow between Kat and Vincent each and every week. This year we'll actually be getting the show 1 day earlier than the US (don't tell anyone!) as it airs on Sunday as opposed to Monday. I'll take it! Especially considering what happens to one of our other shows (see below).

Before we get ahead of ourselves, let's take a look about what Season 2 will bring for Beauty and the Beast: "The 2013 People's Choice Award-winner for Favourite New Drama, Beauty and the Beast, stars Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan as Det. Catherine Chandler and Dr. Vincent Keller. The first season of the epic romance saw the pair fall in love while hiding from the dangerous organization Muirfield and attempting to solve Cat's mother's murder. Beauty and the Beast returns with more of the shocking revelations and heart-stopping action that kept viewers on the edge of their seats throughout the premiere season."

As each and every episode of Beauty and the Beast is available to watch on the Showcase website, I've created a Spoiler-Free Episode List for those of us who love rewatching the series, or in case you want to jump in and have a taste of what it's like. There is even time to catch up before Season 2 begins for newly intrigued fans.

Lost Girl ~ Season 4Begins Sunday November 10, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Showcase

We've loved Lost Girl from the very first episode. The sassy humour, amazing female (and male) characters, kick-butt action and sticking to your guns which makes it a sure-fire fae hit in out books. Season 3 was a heavy one, and it looks like that will continue. Want to know more? Here is a look into Season 4:

"Season four of Lost Girl sees fate cast a wide shadow over the Fae world. With Bo's (Anna Silk) return, the lines between Dark and Light fae are blurred causing Bo to venture on a journey of discovery. Bo and company will ultimately realize that regardless of the challenges and enemies they face, they're stronger when they face them together."

If you need to catch up on Lost Girl, or want to dive in for the first time, I have created a Spoiler-Free Episode List so you can watch each and every episode over at the Showcase website. Gotta keep it fae-tastic!

Haven ~ Season 4Begins Sunday December 1, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase

Haven is another series that we have loved and supported since the very first episode, so I can't mask that I'm very disappointed that we are getting the fourth season of the show 2 1/2 months later that it's US airing on SyFy (where it begins September 13, 2013). It was sad enough last year when we were one week behind, but now we will could literally be watching the premiere episode when the finale airs south of the border. If it was an American show I could understand, but being a Canadian/US co-pro that's filmed here, it really makes it hurt. In a time where social media is so involved with TV, it makes avoiding spoilers near impossible and sadly I'll probably have to unfollow all the Haven groups on Facebook and Twitter until we see all of Season 4. At least we can re-watch all three seasons of Haven over at Showcase.ca to keep us busy until new episodes arrive in December.

Putting that aside, let's look ahead into what Season 4 of Haven will bring: "Season 4 of Haven picks up six months after the devastating season three finale when the town was pummeled by a violent meteor storm, that saw Audrey (Emily Rose) and Duke (Eric Balfour) vanish into thin air, and an injured Nathan (Lucas Bryant) left marooned in Haven."

In addition to the release of these premiere dates, it has also been confirmed that Showcase will have the Canadian Broadcast Premiere for the new science fiction series Helix.  Here is more about Helix: "Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation."

In addition to these shows, the 2013-2014 Season we will also see Game of Thrones Season 2 (starts Friday, August 30 at 10 PM ET/7 PM PT) as well as Continuum Season 3 and Defiance Season 2 all on Showcase.

August 2013 Paranormal TV New and Returning Air Dates

August is a quieter month for TV in terms of new and returning titles, but don't you worry because Fall TV is not that far and from the looks of the awesome that is coming, we will need our strength!  We can gather it now as we dip into the shows to enjoy including Season 2 of Game of Thrones having it's cable broadcast premiere on Showcase, which I'm sure will be a huge hit with many readers.  I am very curious to see InnerSpace's look at this years Comic Con in San Diego, which has become *the* place to find out about everything geektastic.  If you'd rather look for little green men, check out History's broadcast of Secret Access: UFOs on the Record, which sounds pretty interesting to me.

An awesome update: 2 additional shows to add to August: Face Off Season 5 and the series debut of Heroes of Cosplay will air on Space starting Tuesday August 13, 2013.

And we have an Also Awesome this Month to share. Although it's not a new season per se, we do have the Season 2 Cable Premiere of epic series Game of Thrones:

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Continuum Season 2 Finale on Showcase

This week even thought we continue to wrap up some of our shows with the finales of the Continuum and Zero Hour. It's feeling like things will start to get pretty quiet on the small screen theses days, but I'm glad that we still have fun shows to enjoy. I'm a little behind the curve on Continuum so I'm planning a fun catch up week in anticipation for this weeks finale (and I'm very thankful you can watch Continuum online at the Showcase website here).

Continuum ~ Season 2 Finale
Sunday August 4, 2013 at 9pm on Showcase

We've chatted about Continuum since it's series debut last summer, and this Canadian science fiction show featuring the time traveller Keira who is stuck in current day Vancouver has been doing really well in it's second season. I can't wait to sit down and chat about it with Suzie! If you are a fan, know that even though Season 2 is wrapping up this week it's not the end. Continuum has been renewed for Season 3 so we will be seeing more.

Also Awesome

• Zero Hour ~ Series Finale Saturday August 3, 2013 starting at 8pm EST on Global the final 2 episodes of Zero Hour will air. I've been catching this one off and on during it's burn off and it has gone into some interesting ideas and I definitely plan on watching the finale.
• Secret Access: UFOs on the Record ~ Friday August 2, 2013 from 8 - 10pm ET/PT on History; described as "Numerous credible witnesses support some sightings of mysterious UFOs." Sounds pretty intriguing to me!

Helix Coming to Showcase in the 2013-14 Season

I'm so excited to hear that Helix has been picked up by Showcase to air during their 2013-14 season. This time of year can be a little nerve-wracking for us Canadians who keep our fingers crossed that the shows we are looking forward to land on Canadian stations and Helix from SyFy is a big win for Showcase. Helix's executive producers credits speak for themselves: we have Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), Lynda Obst (Contact) and Steven Maeda (Lost and The X-Files).

Helix has a big time science fiction vibe and potential disaster-feel as well. The trailer is cryptic, but in all the good ways you want it to be because all you want is MORE! And we are going to get it!

Here is more about Helix on Showcase:

"Helix (Canadian Broadcast Premiere)

Helix is an intense thriller about a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves pulled into a terrifying life-and-death struggle that holds the key to mankind's salvation or total annihilation."

Are you excited for Helix? I know I am! Thank you, Showcase!

Continuum Renewed for Season 3!

We will be seeing more of Continuum! I am very happy to share the news that Continuum has been renewed and will be venturing into a third season. It's announced with Showcase's 2013-14 Line Up along with lots of our faves here at Hexed including Lost Girl Season 4, Haven Season 4 and Beauty and the Beast Season 2.

I'm thrilled we will be seeing more Continuum, and it's so s exciting to see an intelligent science fiction shows with great acting and lots of Canadian talent get the credit it's due. And we still have lots of Season 2 of Continuum to enjoy over at Showcase throughout the summer. Woohoo!
