Ep 110 Paranormal TV July 23 - Aug 27, 2012

We're back! Suzie & Shannon are back for an epic end-of-summer catch up episode where we chat about a whole ton of our shows! We cap off the summers seasons of Teen Wolf, Continuum, Haunted Highway & School Spirits, dive into Season 2 of Alphas & Grimm, plus check out Face Off, Sinbad and The Almightly Johnsons. It was a pretty freaking awesome summer! We've also decided to keep with Grimm even though we didn't chat all through S1 (and Shannon only saw some of it), we're going to add it to the roster of chatting along with our regulars.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Doctor Who Season 7 Begins on Space Sept 1, 2012

Image from Doctor Who Season 7, Episode 1: "Asylum of the Daleks"
MATT SMITH as The Doctor, KAREN GILLAN as Amy Pond and ARTHUR DARVILL as Rory Williams

Although I'd rather deny that sometime this week it will be September, I can't deny the awesomeness of the return of Doctor Who, which is airing here in Canada now on the same day as the UK. That makes it this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Doctor Who Season 7 Premiere
Saturday September 1, 2012 at 9pm EST on Space

Here are some details from the media release on Season 7 (the spoiler-sensitive might want to divert their eyes): "In Season 7 of DOCTOR WHO, the Doctor, the Ponds, and a TARDIS-load of friends sign on for brand new escapades through space and time as they puzzle an unexpected invasion of Earth, save a spaceship full of dinosaurs and don Stetsons in a Wild West adventure. The explosive season concludes with Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory's (Arthur Darvill) heart-breaking farewell - a race against time through the streets of Manhattan. Will the Doctor really lose the Ponds forever?

In the premiere episode of this season, “Asylum of the Daleks,” the Doctor (Smith), has been kidnapped by his oldest foe and is forced on an impossible mission – to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter … the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. With Amy (Gillan) and Rory’s (Darvill) relationship in meltdown and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it’s up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Pond’s marriage."

While I dropped off the Tardis train somewhere in season 6, I think I might have to hop back on and see how season, er series 7 shapes up for a ride.

Space Announces Kelley Armstrong's 'Bitten' Series to be Adapted For TV

With FanExpo running all weekend long here in Toronto, it's definitely a time to perk up your ears for awesome news. News like the announcement that Space is ordering a new Canadian drama, Bitten, based on the novel series by Kelley Armstrong. If you want to find out more and will be at FanExpo, check out Kelley at the Bitten for Space TV Panel on Sunday August 26, 2012 (see details here).

I'm a big fan of Kelley Armstrong (you can see Suzie's post on her HalCon appearance in 2011 here!), but I actually haven't yet dived into the world of Bitten, her 13 book long series that's got werewolves & other supernatural creatures, awesome women and will apparently totally suck you into it's world once you start reading. Let's take a look at more about the series adaptation from a media release:

"Toronto, ON (August 23, 2012) – Bell Media’s SPACE announced today at the start of Fan Expo Canada™ that it has ordered the new original scripted drama series BITTEN from Vancouver’s No Equal Entertainment and Hoodwink Entertainment, and Toronto’s Entertainment One (eOne). Based on the best-selling Women of the Otherworld novels by Canadian author Kelley Armstrong, thirteen episodes of the one-hour drama have been ordered, with production set to begin in Toronto next spring. Armstrong, and Executive Producer, J.B. Sugar, will be onsite at Fan Expo Canada™ this weekend, appearing on a SPACE panel on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. ET (Room 715) to discuss her novels and the new SPACE series.

Set in Toronto and upper New York State, BITTEN follows the adventures of 28-year-old Elena Michaels, the world’s only female werewolf. An orphan, Elena thought she finally found her “happily ever after” with her new love Clayton, until her life changed forever. With one small bite, the normal life she craved was taken away and she was left to survive life with the Pack. Today’s announcement follows SPACE’s order of new 13-episode drama series ORPHAN BLACK in June. eOne will handle worldwide distribution for the series.

“This sexy new series is the perfect mix of suspense, action and heart, with compelling storylines and a really strong female lead,” said Corrie Coe, Senior Vice-President, Independent Production, Bell Media. “We’re very excited to work with No Equal Entertainment, Hoodwink Entertainment, and eOne to bring this best-selling novel series to the screen.”

“I could not be more thrilled about this. A writer always hopes her stories will live on after the last word is written, and now Elena's will, finding fresh life in a new form,” said Armstrong.

“Kelley Armstrong’s novels contain a rich world, compelling characters, and a deep mythology from which to build a dynamic television series,” said J.B. Sugar, Executive Producer/Director, No Equal Entertainment. “Together with Hoodwink Entertainment, eOne, and Bell Media, I look forward to producing a long-running series with world-wide appeal.”

“The excitement around BITTEN is infectious,” said Margaret O'Brien, eOne Television's President, Canada & COO. “Kelley Armstrong’s characters have found a home with readers and are sure to resonate with TV viewers. We’re thrilled to be working for the first time with No Equal Entertainment and Hoodwink Entertainment on the next big hit for our supportive SAVING HOPE broadcast partners.”

Seeking refuge in Toronto, Elena constructs the façade of a normal life, working as a photographer and dating a new man. But when bodies turn up in the backwoods of Stonehaven, the rural mansion that has served as a werewolf sanctuary for generations, and the Pack is threatened by an unknown predator, they turn to Elena for help. Caught between two worlds and two loves, Elena returns to Stonehaven out of duty, but once back in the fold she realizes that when push comes to shove, like any true alpha female, she’ll stop at nothing to defend her family – including putting her own life on the line.

An erotically charged thriller, BITTEN examines the age-old battle between man and beast as human and inhuman forces come to a head in one small town and within one woman’s body.

BITTEN is based on the critically acclaimed series of novels from Kelley Armstrong, a Globe and Mail and New York Times bestselling author. Originally from Sudbury, ON, Armstrong’s first book, Bitten, was released in 2001 by Random House Canada. She has since written 12 additional books in the Women of the Otherworld series, with the final book, Thirteen, released on July 24, 2012. Armstrong still lives in Southwestern, Ontario with her husband, kids, and far too many pets."

I guess I know what book series I'll be reading next!

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Alphas Season 2 Premiere & The Almighty Johnson Premiere

Photobucket Photobucket
Images of Alphas's Laura Mennel as Nina Theroux and David Strathairn as Dr. Lee Rosen

Sometimes it's just not fair to pick favourites, that's why this weeks Paranormal Pick to the week is a double dose (and double bill) of awesome premieres on Space this Monday July 23, 2012:

The Almighty Johnsons
Series Premiere - Monday July 23, 2012 on 9PM ET on Space

Alphas Season 2 Premiere
Monday July 23, 2012 at 10PM ET on Space

Suzie & I really enjoyed Season 1 of Alphas last summer and chatted about each and every episode (see archive here) and have been excited for months that we are getting Season 2 and now it's finally here! This series featuring humans with enhanced abilities that when found are given the opportunity to works for an organization or be sent to 'the compound'; and it's all kept under wraps from the general public.

The Almighty Johnsons is a New Zealand series following brothers that have powers of Norse Gods. I a little leery that it might be slanted strongly to male audience, but it looks like it could be a lot of fun and now it's not long until we can decide for ourselves! We only recently confirmed that it's air dates here in Canada and now the time has finally come to check it out.

The Almighty Johnsons: 5 Boys (L-R) Anders (Dean O'Gorman), Mike (Tim Balme), Axl (Emmett Skilton), Ty (Jared Turner) and Olaf (Ben Barrington)

Also Awesome This Week:
  • Doctor Who Catch-Up Marathon Continues with Season 4 on Sunday July 29, 2012 from 6AM to 7PM on Space; check out "The Time Lord (David Tennant) reunites with human companion Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), to travel back to Pompeii on the eve of the infamous volcanic eruption. He also investigates a series of grisly murders with the help of Agatha Christie, journeys to the home world of the sinister Ood, and comes face-to-face with an old enemy."

Ep 109: Continuum Video Excerpt

This week we have a video clip from Episode #109 of our podcast! And it is all about Continuum. To listen to the entire podcast, click here.

I love that it starts with us dancing! And the timing of the ending was a complete fluke but quite funny. Enjoy!

Ep 109: Paranormal TV July 10 - 16, 2012

Summer TV fun continues to impress as Suzie & Shannon continue to enjoy our regular shows of Teen Wolf & Continuum and the finale of Fact or Faked. We also dive into premieres +1 for several shows including the new adventure show Sinbad, and non-fiction shows School Spirits (which we LOVE) and Haunted Highwauy. There is so much to watch that except for this crazy heat we'd never even know it's summer!

We sound a little different this week as Shannon's using a new computer (YAY) but a little quite (not so yay) and we also while we are chatting too so that's a lot of tech awesome (which we made it through - go us!). There is an odd occasional electronic purr-like sound that's a bit of a mystery & I'll try and solve that soon!

The Almighty Johnsons Premieres on Space on July 23, 2012

The Almighty Johnsons: 5 Boys (L-R) Anders (Dean O'Gorman), Mike (Tim Balme), Axl (Emmett Skilton), Ty (Jared Turner) and Olaf (Ben Barrington)

I'm excited to share we finally have a confirmed date & time for The Almighty Johnsons which will air on Space starting Monday July 23, 2012 at 9PM ET. I'm so curious about this New Zealand series with brothers that have powers of Norse Gods. I have to admit being a tiny bit worried from the trailer that it might slanted to anticipating having a mostly male audience, but I really hope it isn't because I want to love it. And it's starts on my birthday *and* the first episode is birthday-related, woohoo1

The Almighty Johnsons - Series Premiere
Monday, July 23 at 9 p.m. ET on Space
Season 1, Episode 1: “It’s Kind of a Birthday Present”

With The Almighty Johnsons being on Mondays at 9 and then followed by Alphas (also restarted July 23, 2012 with Season 2), it means monday nights are totally super powered & awesome. Here is more about the show and the series:

Episode Description "It is Axl Johnson’s 21st birthday – which explains the fire in the sky, the Waitemata Harbour being the colour of blood, the various women who seem to want to kill him and the sudden need for a family ceremony in a forest."

Series Description: "The Johnsons are four ordinary Kiwi brothers who have inherited the powers of Norse Gods. But Norse Gods lived a long time ago, and over many generations, their powers have become diluted. So the Johnsons aren’t like those flashy cartoon superheroes, they are typical Kiwi blokes who don’t much like to stand out from the crowd. This is New Zealand after all, and if Godzone really had gods, and they walked among us, let’s face it… you probably wouldn’t even notice.

These everyday gods also have everyday struggles - striving to love stroppy women, overcoming sibling rivalry and fulfilling your God-like destiny, all while still finding the time to enjoy a few beers with your mates."
