Game of Thrones - Season 1 on Showcase starting Feb 15, 2013
If you are feeling that Fridays are a little empty with no more Haven or Fringe, there is a something to fill the void: Game of Thrones! I know, I know ...you are thinking that starts back up in in March, but if you (like me) have yet to see it from the beginning Showcase is hooking us up, big time.
Game of Thrones - Season 1
Friday Feb 15, 2013 on Showcase
An epic historical fantasy series based on the novels by George R.R. Martin, we here at Hexed didn't know that there *was* a paranormal angle on the series until after the fact. Considering it was initially on a channel we didn't watch when it debuted in 2011 we've only briefly chatted, but to see any Game of Thrones posts or podcasts click here. Who knows, now that's it's on Showcase it might get added more frequently to the roster.
Here's is a series description: "Based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling novels, the hit series is set in the fictional land of Westeros, where summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime. From the scheming south and the savage eastern lands, to the frozen north and the ancient Wall that protects the realm from the darkness beyond, powerful families are engaged in a bloody struggle for the incredible power of the Iron Throne and control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. As supernatural forces shake the four corners of the Kingdoms, their bloody struggle will have unforeseen and far-reaching consequences. In the Game of Thrones, you either win, or you die."

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Do No Harm Series Premiere
Now that we are pretty firmly into the regular winter schedule, there is lots on to enjoy but that doesn't mean there isn't anything new to discover! This week we have a new show having it's debut: Do No Harm. It stars Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me) as a neurosurgeon with an alternate personality that he chemically tries to keep under wraps. Although it may not be strictly paranormal, it certainly might be scary and it's inspired by Jekyll and Hyde so I'm definitely curious.
Do No Harm - Series Premiere
Thursday Jan 31, 2013 at 10pm EST of CTV
~and~
Friday Feb 1, 2013 at 9pm EST on Space
Here's more on the series premise: "Respected neurosurgeon Dr. Jason Cole has it all: a great job, a winning personality -- and a dangerous alternate personality. For years Jason has been able to keep his other self -- a devious, borderline sociopath who goes by the name of Ian -- in a chemical prison with a powerful sedative, but his body has developed a resistance, allowing Ian to escape. And Ian is angry about the time he has lost. With so much to lose, Jason must find a way to stop Ian from destroying everything that Jason has worked so hard to build."
Can't wait? You don't have to! Check out the special preview of Do No Harm Episode 1 (Pilot) over at the CTV website.
Also Awesome
- Beauty and the Beast - 1 hour earlier! When checking the weekly TV listings this week, I noticed that Beauty and the Beast has been added to an additional channel and timeslot: Global at 8pm EST on Thursdays. That's 1 hour earlier than the usually 9pm EST broadcast on Showcase. Maybe winning the People's Choice Award for Favourite New TV Drama has something to do with it. I sure hope so!

Alphas: Not Renewed for Season 3
It's always sad news to share when a show that you love looks like it isn't continuing, and although we've discussed it already I think it deserves it's own post. The news is out that SyFy has decided not to renew Alphas for a third season. Now, that wording doesn't necessarily scream 'cancelled', but it would be surprizing to see more of the show at this point.
Alphas was a great addition to the summer TV schedule, it centred on characters who have very specific abilities beyond the range of normal human capabilities; when discovered have the option to join an organization or go to 'the compound'. The show premiere summer 2011 and season 2 aired summer 2012. With interesting characters, complex moral questions, action and smarts it was a joy to watch.
Here at Hexed, we've followed Alphas since it's very first episode and will miss it now that it's gone. See podcasts and posts discussing Alphas here.

Orphan Black Sneak Preview
Orphan Black comes to Space March 2013!
We've been keeping tabs on Orphan Black since last September, so it's exciting to see a sneak peak of this new 10-episode series following a multitude of characters, all played by Tatiana Maslany (Grown Up Movie Star, The Vow) who turns out to be a 'genetically identical individual', aka clone, and these clones are being hunted down by assassins. Yep. That's hooked me.
Here's more about the series from the media release: "In ORPHAN BLACK, Maslany stars as Sarah, an outsider, orphan, and street-wise chameleon who has a murky past and tenuous future after she witnesses a woman’s suicide. After deciding to assume the identity of the dead stranger who looks just like her, Sarah learns the dizzying truth – that she and the dead woman are clones. As Sarah searches for answers, she discovers another chilling fact: there are more clones out there. They are all genetically identical individuals who were planted in unsuspecting birth parents and nurtured in completely different circumstances. They have no idea who created them – or why – but they need to discover the reason in a hurry. An assassin is killing them, one by one."
Orphan Black is noted as a 10 episode series, and is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with Bell Media and BBC America.
I can't wait to hear more! Until then, here is an awesome still for you to enjoy:

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Beauty and the Beast Returns
Beauty and the Beast - Series Return
Thursday January 24, 2013 on Showcase
Although we only chat Beauty and the Beast on occasion, it's no doubt a paranormal show and I know it's totally won my heart. It recently won the People's Choice Award for Favourite New TV Drama (over Arrow, Revolution, Elementary and Nashville) and I know it's easily my guilty pleasure show of the season. It's great Thursday night fun, and I'm happy to see it return to new episodes this week.

2013 Canadian Screen Awards Nominations Announced
The Canadian Screen Awards Nominations were recently announced, these are the new combination awards previously known as the Genies (for Canadian film) and Gemini's (for Canadian TV) awarded by The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television to recognize excellence in film, television and digital media productions.
I was thrilled to see many of the shows we chat about here at Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural were recognized including Haven, Lost Girl, Continuum, Being Human (North American), The Listener, Sanctuary, Camelot, XIII: The Series and Todd and the Book of Pure Evil. And because always point out Star Trek whenever it does (or doesn't!) pop up, I have to also cheer for William Shatner's documentary The Captains in which he chats with actors who portrayed captains in the Star Trek universe.
I'm especially happy to see the nomination for Emily Rose of Haven who is nominated in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role Haven for Audrey Parker's Day Off, I know last year we were very vocal about not seeing her in this category. Ksenia Solo also gets a big cheer for her nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Series for Lost Girl - The Girl Who Fae'd With Fire/Truth and Consequences; last year she was nominated for (and won) a Gemini for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series in Oh Kappa My Kappa/Sorority/Fae Day. Another happy moments is seeing the new Continuum getting lots of recognition with a whopping 5 nominations. Congratulations to all the nominees!
Below I've listed a selection of the TV nominations for the 2013 Canadian Screen Awards, but only a selection. Basically, if any show we talk about on Hexed was nominated, I've listed it below. I would have loved to share all the noms but it's in PDF format and 44 pages which is too much to translate!

Pararnormal Pick of the Week: Almighty Johnsons Season 2 and Ghost Mine Premieres
Image: The Almighty Johnsons Zeb, Axl & Big Scary Guy from Episode 1 premieres Monday, Jan. 14 at 10 p.m. ET
There are tons of shows starting, returning, and finishing this week (check out a full January list here), but I'm a sucker for those Kiwis and new non-fictions shows so we have a two way tie for the Paranormal Pick of the Week:
The Almighty Johnsons Season 2 Premiere
Monday January 14, 2012 at 10pm ET on Space
I'm over the moon excited that we are get Season 2 of The Almighty Johnsons (thank you Space!), this New Zealand TV series following a group of brothers that are Norse Gods just completely won us over last summer. Season 2 starts here in Canada this week and Season 3 is in the works in New Zealand, so hopefully we'll get to see EVEN MORE!

Ghost Mine Series Premiere
Wednesday January 16, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space
This is a new non-fiction paranormal series set in a mine with paranormal activity. Want to know more? Here is the series description:
"In the remote woods of Oregon lays one of the richest gold mines in the U.S. For the last 100 years, it has remained abandoned -- until now. Soon to be re-opened by a scraggly group of miners, these hardy souls will battle the elements to find their fortune. But with a rich history of paranormal activity surrounding the mine, they may just find something else."
Also Awesome
- Haven Season 3 Finale - Friday January 18, 2013 on Showcase (check your local listings for time); The season finale for Haven was to air back in December, but do to odd circumstances a very tactful and sensitive choice was made to push it forward. That means we'll be getting the season finale here in January with 2 back to back episodes. I highly recommend checking your local listings, as when I checked mine it actually starts an hour early with the 2 eps and I'm sure none of us want to accidentally turn in 1 hour in!
- Fringe Series Finale - 2 hours of Fringe this Friday January 18, 2013 and like Haven make sure you check your local listings. In my hood it's airing 1 hour early, and then for 2 hours total.
- Being Human North American Season 3 Premiere - Monday January 14, 2012 at 9pm ET on Space, although this Canadian-American co-production based on the British BBC series following the challenges of three supernatural roommates (a ghost, vampire & werewolf) was a bit rocky in Season 2, I'm still curious to see what season 3 brings.
- Face Off - Season 4 Premiere- Tuesday January 15, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space
- Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and Arrow all return with new episodes this week as well.

January 2013 Paranormal TV New and Returning Air Dates
Last week felt felt like a bit of a lighter week for TV overall. That is all about to change! I was looking ahead to return and premiere dates in January and we have tons of new and returning shows popping up on the grid, plus series premieres, finales and more. As there are so many to keep track of, I though I would share a chronological list for January. Lost Girl and Merlin have already passed, but I've included them for completions sake.
For the spoiler-sentitive it's probably best to not watch the trailers as some are more involved than others.

Merlin Series 5 Premiere
Saturday January 5, 2013 at 8pm ET on Space
This is the fifth and final season of Merlin, following the adventures of Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere, Morgana and Gaius. I'm really curious to see how they wrap it all up!

Lost Girl Season 3 Premiere
Sunday January 6, 2013 at 9pm ET on Showcase
We've been talking about and loving this Canadian supernatural series from the very first episode in Fall 2010. Lost Girl follows a succubus named Bo, who has choses not to choose between the light & dark fae. What will Bo, Kenzi, Dyson, Hale, Trick and Lauren get up to in Season 3? It looks like a so-bad-it's-good feel to me!

This Canadian-American co-production based on the current British BBC series that follows the challenges of three supernatural roommates (a ghost, vampire & werewolf) as they try their best to be... human. We've chatted about Being Human since its first season in Winter 2011, and Season 2 was a bit of a challenge as it was so rocky and tough but I'm still curious to see what season 3 brings.

The Almighty Johnsons Season 2 Premiere
Monday January 14, 2012 at 10pm ET on Space
I'm so thrilled to hear that we are getting Season 2 of The Almighty Johnsons, this New Zealand TV series following a group of brothers that are Norse Gods just completely won me over last summer when it aired on Space. It's frisky and fun, clever with great writing and you can't help but fall in love with the cast. And Season 3 is in the works in New Zealand, so hopefully we'll get to see EVEN MORE!

This make up competition show is a blast to watch. So much creativity, artistry and practical application at work which is an amazing thing to see on TV. We'll have to see what challenges host McKenzie Westmore and judges Ve Neill, Glenn Hetrick and Neville Page come up with this season!

Arrow - Season 1 Returns
Wednesday January 16, 2013
I think it's safe to say Arrow, based on The Green Arrow, was easily one of most liked 'genre' shows that broke out of the gate out of the Fall 2012 debuts. It's getting a little stickier, but that could be a good thing. I've enjoyed it from the get go and will be curious to see where it goes.

Supernatural - Season 8 Returns
Wednesday January 16, 2013
Supernatural is one of the mainstays here at Hexed, and we've been talking about it since our very first podcast. I think every season since Season 5 I've never been quite sure if they would or should continue the series, but here we are well into Season 8 and it just keeps going. I certainly turn in every week, and look forward to it's return post hiatus.

Vampire Diaries - Season 4 Returns
Thursday January 17, 2013
Vampire Diaries is another mainstay here at Hexed, and although Season 4 started of very strong I'm not sure I like where they are heading. But this show goes at such a break-neck pace that it's possible there could be several more huge twists and turns this month, let alone this season!

Haven Series Return & Season Finale
Friday January 18, 2013 on Showcase for time, check your local listings
The season finale for Haven was to air back in December, but do to odd circumstances a very tactful and sensitive choice was made to push it forward. That means we'll be getting the season finale here in January with 2 back to back episodes. I highly recommend checking your local listings, as when I checked mine it actually starts an hour early with the 2 eps and I'm sure none of us want to accidentally turn in 1 hour in!

Ripper Street - Series Premiere
Saturday January 19, 2013 on Space
A new series on Space, and although it's not that likely this one is paranormal it's to early to tell so I'm including it! It's a period crime drama, and looks pretty freaking stylish with an fantastic cast. Here is the description:
"It’s April 1889, six months since the last Jack The Ripper killing, and East London is emerging into a fragile peace, hopeful that the killer’s reign of terror might at last have run its course. Haunted by the failure to catch London’s most evil killer, forward-thinking detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew Macfadyen, The Three Musketeers) is now in charge of H Division, based in the toughest district of Whitechapel. Accompanied by loyal local brawn including Detective Sergeant Bennett Drake (Jerome Flynn, GAME OF THRONES), and U.S. Army surgeon and one-time Pinkerton detective Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg, THE EX LIST), Reid seeks to bring justice to a world that is forever on the brink of mayhem."

Primeval New World Series Return
Tuesday January 22, 2013 on Space
Primeval switching to Tuesday Nights this new year and I'm looking forward to more dinosaur craziness and team drama. I think the series got off to a great start and the cast has fabulous chemistry. They are giving us some longer-arc nudges too, which always works for me.

Beauty and the Beast - Series Return
Thursday January 24, 2013 on Showcase
Although we only chat Beauty and the Beast on occasion, it's no doubt a paranormal show and they totally have won my heart. I think it's easily my guilty pleasure show of the season, which really means I pretend to be surprized when things turn out EXACTLY has you know they will, because they have to.. and they feint one way but you know where it's going. Always. It's great Thursday night fun.

Borealis on Space Friday January 11, 2013 at 9pm ET
Borealis Image: Fighters make their way to the cage
UPDATE: You can watch Borealis online over at the Space Website here. I don't know how long this will be available, so if you haven't seen it yet watch it while you can! Or, watch it again because it was so awesome!
We chatted about Borealis back in the 2012 Pilot Blitz back last Feburary, at which time it was looking to be a series however now it's a film. And it's on Space, tonight at 9pm ET!
Here is an updated description: "Set 30 years in the future, Vic (Ty Olsson, SUPERNATURAL), an ex-ultimate fighter, is the owner of the only airstrip, hotel, and bar in the high Arctic frontier town of Borealis. He does his best to keep the peace amongst a vast array of clashing characters in this lawless international free zone that sits on top of the world’s last remaining oil."
And the previous the description from last winter: "Set approximately 30 years in the future, tells the story of a DEADWOOD-like frontier town situated in the high Arctic. The series explores the political, environmental and social impact of a world in which the polar icecaps have melted and countries are vying for the last vestiges of oil in the Arctic."
I couldn't find a trailer, but here is a clip:
It looks like it's gone though some changes in the idea since we first discussed it, but I'm still very curious to see it and happy to hear it will be airing. I'll be checking it out! Here's some more images to enjoy from Borealis.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: The Haunting Of...
Even though we are firmly in 2013 it's still a quieter week for our regular shows, which allows room for new shows to sweep us off our feet and I think we have a new contender stepping up to the plate. Cast your eyes on this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week:
The Haunting Of...
New Episode Featuring: Fairuza Balk
Monday January 7, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on A&E Canada
The Haunting Of.. is a non-fiction show where famous people share their experiences with the paranormal. In Canada it's airing on A&E and this weeks episode with Fairuza Balk is new, but if you are new to the show you can watch it all night to see episodes featuring Chazz Palmenteri, Eric Mabius and Regis Philbin. The Canadian schedule is definitely different from the US one (especially as it airs on Biography as well as A&E in the States), so I highly recommend checking your local listings to keep up to date with new episodes.
More about The Haunting Of... : "From executive producers Seth Jarrett and Julie Insogna Jarrett (Celebrity Ghost Stories, I Killed My BFF), The Haunting Of... is an original series featuring world-renowned psychic-medium Kim Russo as she gives an exclusive look at celebrities who have had their lives changed by paranormal events. Each one-hour episode of The Haunting Of... will feature celebrities’ real life encounters with the paranormal as they return to the site of their traumatic experience. During these gripping journeys, Kim Russo unlocks the secrets that haunted each celebrity and explains the unexplained. Kim also unveils shocking psychic moments and surprising personal revelations as she tunes into the celebrities’ personal lives and connects with their loved ones who have crossed over."
Also Awesome:
- Fringe returns on Friday January 11, 2013 with a new episode, and we are getting to the final moments of the show with this being the third-last of the series.
- Supernatural in Syndication on Space comes full circle this week with the airing of the Season 4 finale on Thursday January 10, 2013 after which they go right back to the beginning on Friday January 11, 2013. I'm a little surprized they are only going through 4 of the 7 seasons, but if you are new to the show this is of course a great way to (partially) catch up.
