People's Choice Awards Nominations 2014

I'm excited that so many of our shows are included in this years People's Choice Awards Nominations.  You can vote now on the nominations, and the show will air on January 8, 2014.  Awards season has officially begun! Now let's take a look at the nominations that includes shows we talk about here at Hexed...

Tatiana Maslay in Orphan Black

It's not surprize to see many familiar and favourite names in Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actor and Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Actress categoriews, I can easily agree with many of the noms of Andrew Lincoln, Ian Somerhalder, Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Stephen Amell; and for the ladies Emilia Clarke, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kristin Kreuk, Nina Dobrev and Tatiana Maslany.  For acting chops we also have Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Joseph Morgan Favorite Actor in a New TV Series nominated for Dracula and The Originals (assumed) respectively, although I think it's a bit of a cheat to have Joseph Morgan considered he played Klaus on Vampire Diaries for several seasons.  That being said, I would still probably vote for him as his acting really is that good.

Joseph Morgan as Klaus

Chemistry is always important between characters, and in the Favorite On-Screen Chemistry the heat gets turned up with a nom of Damon & Elena - The Vampire Diaries.  And they give it up to the boys too with Favorite TV Bromance nom going to Sam, Dean & Castiel for Supernatural.  Although, does it count as a bromance, if 2 of the 3 are brothers?  I would vote form them anyway!

Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins as Dean, Sam & Cass in Supernatural

I'm sure we'll talk about if we consider Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead an antihero, as he is nominated in the Favorite TV Anti-Hero category along with Dexter Morgan - Dexter, Jaime Lannister - Game of Thrones, Norman Bates - Bates Motel and Walter White - Breaking Bad.

For shows as a whole, the ones we talk about here dominated the Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show category with nominations going to Beauty and the Beast, Once Upon A Time, Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead.  I wonder if one day we'll see enough of these shows that we might even get a category for horror as well, as a few of those do blur the lines of Sci-Fi/Fantasy to the beyond.

I think the Favorite New TV Drama is one that is always interesting to watch, and of the shows we talk about all of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Dracula, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, The Originals, Reign, Sleepy Hollow and The Tomorrow People were all nominated!  Last year's winner was Beauty and the Beast.  I wonder what this years will be?

Interesting to see that both American Horror Story and The White Queen are in the Favorite TV Movie/Miniseries (along with Sharknado).  I wonder where the line between a regular show, and a miniseries is?

Ep 142 Paranormal TV Oct 1 - 7, 2013

  • This week on Hexed Suzie and Shannon tackle the series premieres of The Witches of East End and The Originals; and it gets pretty crazy as we both aren't continuing to watch both of them! We also check in on the Season 5 premiere of Vampire Diaries, check in on Sleepy Hollow, Ghost Mine, Face Off, Paranormal Witness, Fangasm and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

  • With there being so many shows (and more coming down the pipe!) it's challenging to get everything in. But we do, for now!

  • Next Week we take a week off for Shannon's move or we might be back with a quick episode. Either way, the next time we'll chat the Season 9 premiere of Supernatural, Season 4 of The Walking Dead, check in on our new regs. We also may implement a rating system to decide which of the oodles of shows to chat about.

Falling Skies - Season 2 Premiere
Monday October 14, 2013 at 9pm on Space

Genre: Science Fiction

After really enjoying the first season, I'm excited to share that we are finally getting Season 2 of Falling Skies thanks to Space. This is one of the few shows that there is a huge delay in the US airing versus when we get it here, but the wait is almost over

Series 2 description: "Season 2 opens with Pope (Colin Cunningham, STARGATE SG-1) seizing command of a renegade contingent within the 2nd Mass unit. Meanwhile, Tom (Noah Wyle, ER) suddenly returns to the group but his loyalty comes into question; Hal (Drew Roy, Secretariat) and Ben (Connor Jessup, Blackbird) drift apart."

Season 2 of Falling Skies consists of 10 episodes. See more about Season 2 here.

This one feels like the format of Paranormal Witness, but with alien encounters.  It's been a while since we've had a new non-fiction series so you can be certain we'll be checking this one out!

Paranormal Picks of the Week: Series Premieres of The Originals and Witches of East End

This week is when we start to see The CW roll out it's TV season including the new series The Originals which was picked up by CHCH (Thank you CHCH!). I would have loved to include The Vampire Diaries as a double bill night of vampire awesomeness with our pick of the week, but the Canadian airing on CTV Two doesn't happen until Sundays at 8pm.  If you happen to get The CW, you can watch them back to back. On a happier note, we will be getting Beauty and the Beast a day early, it's second season begins this Sunday Oct 6, 2013 on Showcase.

It was too hard to choose which (or witch) show to be this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week with this week so I decided to included both new series of The Originals and Witches of East End which we just recently found out will be airing on Lifetime Canada.  Have a blessed TV Week!

The Originals - Series Premiere
Thursday Oct 3, 2013 at 9pm on CHCH and The CW *

Here is a little bit about The Originals: "An offshoot of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world’s original vampires: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).

The Original Vampire family pledge to remain together, but now their bonds of family are broken and Klaus reacts to an anonymous tip that someone is plotting against the family in the place they helped build, New Orleans."

*Please note it's regular timeslot is Tuesday at 8pm on both CHCH and The CW starting next Tuesday October 8, 2013.

Witches Of East End ~ Series Premiere
Sunday October 6, 2013 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Lifetime Canada

Series Description: Based on Melissa de la Cruz’s best-selling novel, Witches of East End follows Joanna Beauchamp (Julia Ormond) and her two adult daughters Freya (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid (Rachel Boston) whom, unbeknownst to them, are their family’s next generation of witches. Leading ordinary modern day lives in Long Island’s secluded seaside town of East Haven, when Freya becomes engaged to a wealthy newcomer, a series of events forces Joanna to admit to her daughters they are powerful and immortal witches.

Also Awesome
  • Vampire Diaries Season 5 Premiere Sunday October 6, 2013 at 8pm on CTV Two (also airs Thursday Oct 3, 2013 at 8pm on The CW); it will be interesting to see how the show fairs in this timeslot 3 days after it's US airing and also how things go now that a portion of the cast will be on the spin off series The Originals.  I'm looking forward to some old school Vampire Diaries craziness myself.
  • Beauty and the Beast Season 2 Premiere Sunday October 6, 2013 at 8pm on Showcase (also airs Monday Oct 7, 2013 at 9pm on The CW).  This was definitely one of the happy surprizes of 2012 and I always looked forward to the show.  If you haven't watched it yet you can see the whole thing online over at Showcase.ca (or see my spoiler-free episode list here).
  • Arrow Season 1 Recap Wednesday October 2, 2013 at 8pm on CTV and The CW; although season 2 of Arrow doesn't start back up until next week we can all take a refresher course with this Season 1 recap episode.

The Originals to Air on CHCH

I had been scouring the Canadian broadcast schedules for months looking for where The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals would be airing. Finally it's popped up on a schedule and we can now share that The Originals will be airing on CHCH.

Here is a little be more about The Originals: "An offshoot of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals centers on the Mikaelson siblings, otherwise known as the world’s original vampires: Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebekah (Claire Holt).

The Original Vampire family pledge to remain together, but now their bonds of family are broken and Klaus reacts to an anonymous tip that someone is plotting against the family in the place they helped build, New Orleans."

The Originals will premiere on CHCH on Thursday October 3, 2013 at 8pm and then find it's new home on Tuesday nights starting Tuesday October 8, 2013. This puts the shows Canadian airings on CHCH in close alignment with it's home broadcaster of The CW.

I'm so relieved we will be getting The Originals here in Canada. I was initially skeptical of this show and the idea of a back-door pilot during Season 4 of The Vampire Diaries, but after seeing that episode it looks like it's going to be awesome. Thank you CHCH!
