Poll Results: Which Show are you sad to see cancelled and/or not renewed

Photobucket

Well the results are in and I'm actually quite sad at how many choice there were for Which show are you sad to see cancelled and/or not renewed? Although I'm not surprized to see one of our faves taking up the top prize for sadness with The Secret Circle at 40%. It was closely followed by and only narrowly popped ahead of Todd and the Book of Pure Evil at 33%. Then it was 3rd place tie-o-rama with Alcatraz, Ringer and Terra Nova all at 26%.

Here are the results:

40% - Secret Circle
33% - Todd and the Book of Pure Evil
26% - Tie: Alcatraz, Ringer and Terra Nova
20% - Awake
13% - Tie: The Finder and The River

If I had put this poll up this week I could have added Sanctuary as we finally got final confirmation that the show had gone from up in the air to confirmed as cancelled. I plowed through all four seasons this winter when they started airing Mon-Thurs on Space and enjoyed every minute of it. Yet again, I was late to the game!

Pararanormal DVD Picks: Teen Wolf Season 1, The River Season 1 and The Woman in Black,

Images: THE RIVER: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON (©2012 ABC Studios. All Rights Reserved); The Woman in Black (Courtesy of Alliance Films)

With the summer season of shows starting to premiere it means it's time for their previous season to start hitting DVD and BluRay and that means this week we get not only summer show Teen Wolf on DVD but also the looks like only 1-season The River as well. As a special treat for spooky fans we are also getting the film The Woman in Black on DVD and Blu-Ray. It's a good time to be a fan of the supernatural! Here are more details:

Paranormal DVD/BluRay Releases May 22, 2012:
  • Teen Wolf: Season 1 We really the first season of this summer werewolf TV series starring Tyler Posey, Dylan O'Brien, Colton Haynes and Crystal Reed. It uses the premise of the 80's Michael J. Fox film of a teenage werewolf but updates it to current day and keeps the teen angst, comedy and uses the supernatural elements very well. We chatted about each and every episodes of the first season here and did an episode-by-episode rundown of season 1 here.
  • The River Complete Season First Season from the folks that brought us the creepy Paranormal Activity we get this creepy drama with a strong POV and found footage feel as a family looks for their lost-in-the-wilderness wilderness documentary father. We only chatted about this one occasionally, I know it only dropped of my viewing schedule when it became harder to find exactly *when* it was on. I would love to re-visit the series on DVD. The DVD includes 8 episodes, 13 deleted scenes, a behind-the-scenes look and the series and audio commentaries on season opener Magus and closer Row, Row, Row Your Boat (344 minutes).
  • The Woman in Black Supernatural Film Pick! It was actually a Movie Movie Book to Film Club back in October 2011 and was released in February 2012. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe (of the Harry Potter series) as a young lawyer to settle the affairs of a woman who has passed. The art direction are setting are spectacular but I thought they went for too consistently melancholy tone and made some serious changes from the book. Still, it's a must-see for the supernatural film fan.

We talk about the shows in depth, so please watch first and then listen. We don't look ahead or watch trailers, teasers, look at casting info, so any preditions and commentary are from our own minds.

For new US Lost Girl fans, we are watching and podcasting about Season 2 of Lost Girl. See our Season 1 Lost Girl discussions here.

For Being Human North American fans, we have a unique reverse-spoiler notation as we've seen the UK version of Being Human up to and including Season 3, so we may touch on characters and events from that series as well, so please watch it first if you want to be spoiler free!

New & Returning This Week: The River and The Walking Dead

Photobucket
Image - Cast of The River: Bruce Greenwood as Emmet Cole, Joe Anderson as Lincoln Cole, Paul Blackthorne as Clark, Paulina Gaitan as Jahel, Leslie Hope as Tess Cole, Eloise Mumford as Lena, Shaun Parkes as Adjay, Thomas Kretschmann as Captain Kurt Brynion and Daniel Zacapa as Emilio.

Suzie & I have chatted excitedly about the trailer of the upcoming TV show The River from Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli, and now the time is upon us to see if it's as good as it looks with the series starting this Tuesday. It certainly appears to have a spooky vibe, shakycam style, and sure to have emotional connect as it follows family members trying to find each other. Plus, we are still hyped and hoping that it will be paranormal in nature. Not too much longer before we know for sure!

The River series premieres this Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 on CTV at 9 p.m.

The Walking Dead

AMC's hit zombie series comes back with new season 2 episodes this Sunday February 12, 2012 and is it just me or did that hiatus seem *way* too long? We've both had strong feelings in both directions on this on, although Suzie has decided she likes the show and Shannon is swaying back in that direction as well especially after the mid-season finale for season 2. I'm sure they swing back into things with a timely Valentine's episode! Perhaps not. But, there could be arrows to the heart, crossbow arrows that is.

More happy news for The Walking Dead is that it's season 3 is not only in the works but it's also going to be a whopping 16 episodes, in comparison to season 1 which had 6 eps and season 2 which will air 13 episodes.

If you need to catch up on the season or the series? You are in luck, AMC is re-airing both season 1 in it's entirety as well as season 2 so far:
Season 1: Saturday February 11, 2012 starting at 8PM EST
Season 2: Sunday February 12, 2012 starting at 1:30 PM EST with new episode at 9PM EST

CTV picks up The River - Premieres February 7, 2012

CTV picks up Paranormal Thriller TV show 'The River', premieres February 7, 2012 at 9pm

Suzie & I chatted about the trailer of the upcoming TV show The River from Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli recently, commenting on it's spooky vibe and shakycam style and being totally thrilled at the possibility of it being paranormal in nature. Considering the headline "Newly Acquired Paranormal Thriller THE RIVER Joins New Series SMASH, MISSING, and GCB to Complete CTV Mid-Season Schedules" I think we can safely say the show is paranormal. WOOHOO.

If that wasn't enough (and it is), the cast is awesome. We have a great set of actors incluidng one of my favourite but not seen enough actors: Joe Anderson (The Crazies, Across the Universe) plus Paul Blackthorne (Dresdin from The Dresdin Files, Christian from The Gates), Thomas Kretschmann (Captain Englehorn from King Kong, Dracula in Dario Argento's upcoming Dracula 3D), Bruce Greenwood (Captain Pike from Star Trek (2009) and many more roles) to name just a few. Let's take a look at more of the official details about the show.

From the media release:
"Toronto, ON (Dec. 20, 2011) – CTV announced today its mid-season schedules for CTV and CTV Two, including its latest acquisition: the much buzzed-about adventure-horror series THE RIVER, from Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli and starring Canadians Bruce Greenwood and Leslie Hope. THE RIVER brings to four the number of new series set to join the CTV schedules in early 2012, following a fall season that saw CTV deliver six out of the Top 6 new series on Canadian television. A thrilling take on a search and rescue mission in the Amazon, THE RIVER joins the highly anticipated debuts of big ticket television series SMASH, MISSING, and GCB"

The River series premieres will air on CTV on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 at 9 p.m.
