Ep 135: Summer Paranormal TV Show Check In

  • We are back, for realz this time. Thank you so much for your patience in our absense and understanding of our absence, those who want to know more about our Mom see here.
  • In our return episode we chat about Summer Paranormal TV, some in depth and spoilery (Almighty Johnsons!) and some very briefly (Being Human UK), but we do touch at least on each of our shows that aired this summer. It's a combination of spoiler-free chats and spoiler filled chats (Defiance, The Almighty Johnsons, Under the Doom, Paranormal Witness and Zero Hour), but we do note if we are going to go spoiler on you.
  • We hope to be back next week with a discussion on where our fall/winter regulars like Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Grimm and the like ended and what (if any) predictions we have for the upcoming seasons.

Paranormal Picks of the Week ~ Premiere of Being Human (UK), Teen Wolf and Paranormal Witness

Being Human UK's Tom, Hal and Alex

I thought it was going to be a quiet week (and possible quiet summer), but the tide has changed and we have not one...not two...but THREE series premiering this week. Not only that, all three of them are big favourites of Suzie and mine: Teen Wolf, Being Human (UK) and Paranormal Witness. There is no way to call out one over the others, so all three are making their marks as the Paranormal Pick(s) of the Week:

Teen Wolf ~ Season 3 Premiere
Monday June 3, 2013 at 10pm ET on Much Music

Summer means Teen Wolf to me. Every since the show started in 2011, I've loved it. The crazy mysteries, the beautiful awkwardness, the awesome cast and of course... the werewolves. So much happens in each episode and I rarely have any idea what will be coming next. I can't wait to see out where they take it this season!

L-R Michael Socha as Tom, Kate Bracken as Alex, and Damien Molony as Hal

Being Human (UK) ~ Season 5 Premiere
Saturday June 8, 2013 at 9pm * ET on Space

This is not only the fifth season of Being Human (UK), but it's also the final season of Being Human (UK). Although I will be sad to see the show go, I am very happy that will get to see how this supernatural roommate drama sums up the series. It's been an emotional roller coaster through the years and I can't imagine it being any different as it comes to a close.

*remember Being Human (UK) is an extra-long show clocking in at 1h 15 min*

Paranormal Witness ~ Season 3 Premiere
Wednesday June 5, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space

This show is one of the scariest out there, and it's non-fiction to boot. I was a latecomer to loving it, only falling hard mid-season 2 but I'm happy I came back to it because the amazing storytelling that completely honours the truth of the experiences is extremely impressive. I'm looking forward to Paranormal Witness in it's third (and expanded) season, but I might have to watch it during the day with the lights on.

Deep South Paranormal's Hart Fortenbery and Keith Ramsey

Also Awesome
  • Deep South Paranormal Finale Tuesday June 4, 2013 at 9 on Space; I found this non-fiction paranormal investigation show absolutely charming. I loved the combination of old world folklore plus technology with a lot of heart and compassion throughout. I really hope it gets renewed.
  • Revolution Season 1 Finale Monday June 3, 2013 10pm on CityTV; while we didn't talk about Revolution that much this year it was certainly one of the impressive successes of the new crop of 2012-13 shows and was confirmed to be renewed for a season 2. I wonder if they found out what turned off all the power.
  • Merlin in Syndication Monday - Friday 3pm (and 9am) on Space as of Monday June 3 2013; with the 5 seasons having come to a close it's a very smart choice to start airing this one daily! I found Merlin to be a highly enjoyable fantasy series, and would easily recommend it for anyone who hasn't tried it out yet.
  • Sinbad and Primeval: New World Season 1 rebroadcastings on Space; 2 great series to enjoy this summer starting from their very first episodes on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 7pm and 8pm respectively. This also concurrent pairs to the US airings of the shows premieres on the US SyFy channel.

Ep 134 Paranormal TV Scorecard 2012-13

  • Hey Everyone! It's been a while but Suzie and Shannon are back and we are looking back at the new shows that debuted during the 2012/13 season that were either paranormal, or thought to be at one point possibly paranormal (some are hard to tell before they start!). We share of if the shows that have been renewed or cancelled and weight in on if we are happy (or not) with that decision. We also dive into not only fall start, but also winter start shows and share our thoughts on a few shows that have even started recently including a lenghty discussion on Defiance and being quite impressed with the oddness of Hemlock Grove. And our photo this week Suzie took with her awesome camera of the Full Flower May Moon! Isn't it beautiful?
  • Many of the cancelled shows will have their remaining episodes air starting in June, including Cult, 666 Park Avenue and Zero Hour. You can see a full schedule here, and they will also be in our June New and Returning post up later this week. We hope to be back soon to check in on how our regs finished out their seasons, things have been rather challenging for us so keeping up with TV hasn't always been possible.
  • Thank you to everyone for your patience in our time off between shows, we do update here at the site and our Facebook page with news so you can always connect with us online.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Deep South Paranormal Begins April 30, 2013

Deep South Paranormal premieres April 30, 2013 at 9pm on Space

A new paranormal reality series starts this week: Deep South Paranormal! I will admit that I don't know quite to make about the show from the previews (see trailer below) but I know I will check it out. It's a it quite on the non-fiction front these days so I'm happy to share that Deep South Paranormal is easily this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week.

Deep South Paranormal - Series Premiere
Tuesday April 30, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space

Here is more about the show: "The quest for proof of the paranormal goes deeper than ever – Deep South that is. Deep South Paranormal follows a bayou-based team on a mission. Steeped in the rich history of their homeland, they want to unlock the mysteries that have baffled Southerners for years. They are a homegrown blend of self-proclaimed rednecks who share a passion for this part of the country and the paranormal events that take place there. They take on anything from swamp apparitions to haunted plantation houses and Southern voodoo legends.

Also Awesome
  • Remember: Grimm changes to Tuesday Nights at 10pm this week
  • Panic Button Series Premiere on Tuesday April 30, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space, the series is described as: "PANIC BUTTON is a high-impact, bone-chilling, reality series where a group of select participants become brave subjects in an elaborate and daunting maze. Each week, six people are confronted by the thing that terrifies them most, including: confinement, fear of the unknown, germs, snakes, spiders, or swarming. The Panic Button maze presents them with four ever-escalating and ever-changing levels of fear. Only the most courageous will get to the end without hitting their panic button."
  • Panic Button premieres April 30, 2013 at 10pm on Space
  • The Following Season Finale Tuesday April 30, 2013 at 9pm EST on CTV; many of the winter start shows in 2013 did not have a great run but The Following soared in the ratings and secured a second season.
  • Abraham Lincoln vs Zombies (not Vampires...that's a different movie) on Space Saturday May 4, 2013 at 10pm EST (repeats Sunday May 5, 2013 at 4pm EST).

Deep South Paranormal Comes to Space April 30, 2013

Last night I saw a commercial for the new show Deep South Paranormal, and that it will arrive on Space starting April 30, 2013. The show recently started airing on SyFy (and the trailer below is from SyFy with SyFy dates). I'm not quite sure what to make of it, but I'll give it that the folks on the show certainly have a lot of chutzpah and I am certainly curious enough to check it out.

The fun-loving charm of these larger-than-life characters becomes deadly serious when it comes to their investigations, which deal not only with the hazards of paranormal phenomenon, but with physical dangers like gators, snakes, spiders, wild hogs, and mosquitos.

Investigations this season include Alabama’s Bear Creek Swamp, the Old Cahawba ghost town, Florida’s Manntown Cemetery and the Mont Helena Plantation in the Mississippi Delta, to name just a few."

Deep South Paranormal is set for 6 episodes. See more about Deep South Paranormal over at the shows website, check out info on the individual investigators and take a peek at the haunted (or gothic?) locations.
