12 Days of SPACE-MAS 2013

.

It's TIME! The snow is start to piling, the tree is twinkling and there are lots of presents to wrap, cookies to bake (and eat) and 12 whole days of awesome programming on Space to celebrate the 12 Days of SPACE-MAS!  From December 21 - January 5, 2014 it's going to be marathon and movie mayhem, in the best possible way.

I'm partial to the Face Off SERIES Marathon. That's right: all 5 seasons of Face Off will be shown from Dec 26 - 29, 2013. That's a lot of make up challenges to enjoy. We also have the Orphan Black marathon which is particularly excellent for anyone who missed it the first time round. Of course there is the annual Christmas with the Doctor including the Doctor Who Christmas Special. Plus lots and lots of movies.

Let's look at the entire schedule.  Fire up your sonic screwdriver and let the butterbeer roll!

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Sleepy Hollow Series Premiere

This week we official begin the Fall TV season and that means both new and returning shows to enjoy, as well as the finishing up of a few summer faves. But I'm sticking new in the spotlight, and although it's not definite how (or if) this one will be paranormal it still is this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Sleepy Hollow ~ Series Premiere
Monday Sept 16, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT on Global

This one looks like a blend of mystery and historical, and it's definitely got a spooky atmosphere going on. I've very curious about it and really look forward to checking out the premiere. I've kept the story of this one under wraps a bit, but if you want to know more here is a series description: "This thrilling new action-adventure drama is a modern-day retelling of Washington Irving’s classic tale. Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison, Parade's End) is resurrected and pulled two-and-a-half centuries through time to find that the world is on the brink of destruction, and that he is humanity’s last hope, forcing him to team up with a contemporary police officer (Nicole Beharie, 42) to unravel a mystery which dates all the way back to the founding fathers."

Sleepy Hollow stars Nicole Beharie, John Cho, Orlando Jones, Tom Mison and Katia Winter.

See more about Sleepy Hollow at GlobalTV.com.

  • The Neighbors Season 2 Premiere Friday Sept 20, 2013 at 8:30 on CTV; We were late adopters to this aliens-among-us science fiction comedy series, but totally loved it once we jumped aboard. The Series 1 finale is at 8pm in case you need to catch up a bit.
  • Under the Dome Season 1 Finale Monday Sept 16, 2013 at 10pm on Global; We didn't talk of follow this series too much but it certainly has a lot of viewers, so it only seemed fair to share the upcoming finale.

This week it's time to bridge Season 2 and 3 with the following: "Wrap up season 2 of DOCTOR WHO with Episodes 7 to 13. Then, get in the Christmas spirit with the DOCTOR WHO special THE RUNAWAY BRIDE, followed by the first two episodes of season 3."
  • Heroes of Cosplay Finale Tuesday Sept 17, 2013 at 10pm on Space; Boy did they leave use hanging last week! Paranormal Pick of the Week: Ghost Mine Season 2 Premiere on Space

On last weeks podcast we were over the moon to share that Ghost Mine Season 2 was going to airing on Space. Both Suzie & I loved Ghost Mine right from it's very first episode, so the fact that we are already getting Season 2 there was no doubt the Season 2 premiere would be this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Ghost Mine ~ Season 2 Premiere
Wednesday September 4, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space

Here is a little more about Season 2 of Ghost Mine:

"Season 2 digs deeper into the Ghost Mine mystery when the hit paranormal unscripted series returns to Oregon’s Crescent Mine. Located near the historic gold mining community of Sumpter, Oregon, the Crescent Mine is believed to contain high amounts of gold."

And don't forget to watch Ghost Mine: Back on the Mountain which will air just before the Season 2 premiere on Wednesday September 4, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space. And according the Patrick Doyle's Facebook Page, Adam "Edge" Copeland (who plays Dwight on Haven) will be hosting. Season 2 got twice the order of Season 1 so we will have a whopping 12 episodes of Ghost Mine to enjoy.  I literally can't wait.

See more about at Ghost Mine at Space.ca.

Also Awesome
  • Ghost Mine Season 1 Marathon on Space next Sunday September 8, 2013 starting at 11pm EST. If you didn't get a chance to see Season 1 in the winter, now you can see all 6 episodes marathon-style!
  • The Complete Doctor Who Sundays on Space starts Sunday September 8, 2013 at 10pm ET and will have "the entire first season starring Christopher Eccleston as the Time Lord". Every Sunday in September on Space will have Doctor Who marathons. Woohoo!
  • Extreme Collectors begins Monday September 2, 2013 at 9 & 9:30 PM on Slice; this is a new series to us but there definitely can be a possible geek-centric content for this shows, especially promising is the second episode entitled Captain America.
  • If you are lucky enough to subscribe to Superchannel, this week marks the series premiere of The White Queen on Friday September 6, 2013 at 9pm ET. While this isn't paranormal, this ficitionalized historical story looks to feature awesomely strong women which makes it enough at least mention it. Here is the series description: "War ravages England in 1464 during a blood feud between the House of York and the House of Lancaster over who is the country's true king. Young Edward IV, heir to the House of York, is crowned king with help from master manipulator Lord Warwick, known as ``The Kingmaker,'' who has a plan to control the throne. But that plan comes crashing down when Edward falls in love with Lancastrian commoner Elizabeth Woodville. A violent struggle for the crown ensues between Woodville, adversary Margaret Beaufort and Anne Neville, a pawn in her father's power game."

Image from Orphan Black Episode 2 Instinct Airs April 6, 2013 Tatiana Maslany as Sarah

I feel like we just went down the rabbit hole of Orphan Black goodness, and now Season 1 is already at finale time! This amazing series starring Tatiana Maslany in multiple roles including Sarah, Beth, Helena, Cosima and Alison (at the very least) and honestly, she's so good that at times I forget it's all 1 person! If you haven't had a chance to watch the show yet, Space is airing the entire series on Saturday marathon-style up to the season 1 finale. It's a lot darker than I expected going in, but it's very well done and it easily makes the grade to be this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Also Awesome
  • The Listener Season 4 Premiere Wed May 29, 2013 at 10pm ET on CTV. I am really hoping that The Listener stays in the same spot on the schedule this season, and I have a sneaky feeling I might jump on board The Listener train this summer. In the past it's was very hard to track, but there is always hope for some more schedule stability.
  • Utopia Finale Thurs May 30, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space. Oh, how I meant to watch this one! Time just got away from me, but this UK conspiracy-thriller following "unconnected people who find themselves in possession of The Utopia Experiments, a legendary graphic novel shrouded in mystery" really sounds awesome to me. Good thing it's been picked up for a second series, and maybe I'll catch up on the second time around!
  • In the Flesh Finale Saturday June 1, 2013 at 10pm ET on Space. The 3-Parter zombie series comes to a close this weekend. Talk about fast!

And for Star Trek: The Next Generation fans they are airing all of Season 1 on Dec 29 & 30, 2012 in a Remastered Marathon (TNG fans check out Shannon's TNG re-watch here).  For the Merlin fans, there is days upon days of Merlin marathons of all four seasons as we lead up the the fifth and final series which will begin to air January 5, 2013 on Space.  In addition, there are tons of movies from fantasy films to aliens invasions and more!

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Alphas Season 2 Finale

Image from Alphas: Episode 12 Need to Know

We have a lot of finales this week and I did find it a bit hard to choose considering last weeks Alphas was so brutal, but I hope they finale with (or actually, preferable without) a bang. This science fiction summer series has been quite a treat the last two years, and I hope we are in for more next year as well. Either way, this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week is:

Alphas Season 2 Finale
Monday October 22, 2012 at 10pm ET on Space

UPDATE
As the Finale didn't air at the timeslot due to a technical error, it will be broadcasted Wed Oct 24, 2012 at 9pm ET/6pm PT as well as being available online. See more details here.

Will it all come together? Will it all fall apart? Either way it feels like there is no going back as these humans with very specific abilities beyond the range of normal human capabilities go deeper and darker into destruction. How will it all go down? Tonight we will find out!

Also Awesome:

  • Paranormal Witness Season Finale - Wednesday October 24, 2012 on Space I've been a bit hot and cold with Paranormal Witness, but this second season has had some excellent episodes including the formidable "The Abduction" and clever "The Cabin"; I'm very curious to see what tale will be told as they send this season off
  • Hot Set Season 1 Finale - Tuesday October 23, 2012 on Space This reality competition show that pits set designers head to head comes to a close this week and it's been a really fun ride. It's wild to see the contestants create a fully functional and filmable set each and ever week, and I'm very much looking forward tot he finale.
  • Primeval Marathons continue on Space and complete with the airing of Season 5 on Sunday October 28, 2012 on Space. It's the final week of marathons for Primeval and I've been enjoying them each and every week! I can't wait for the beginning of the new series next week!
  • Halloween, Halloween 4 & Halloween 5 on AMC Canada If you haven't seen these three installments of the Halloween series now is your chance as AMC is playing this week at multiple times. First viewings are Monday October 22, 2012 evening for Halloween & Halloween 4 and then Tuesday October 23, 2012 evening for Halloween 5. I have no idea if I've seen 4 & 5 myself, so I may very well be checking these out! Check AMC Canada listings here.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Supernatural S8 Premiere & The Almighty Johnsons S1 Finale

Image from: The Almighty Johnsons
Episode 10 Like Jesus, Only Cooler Premieres Monday, October 1 at 9 p.m. ET

We are at that busy time of both endings and beginnings, and with 2 awesome shows starting and finishing it's a double does of fun for the picks for this weeks Paranormal Pick(s) of the Week:

The Almighty Johnsons Season 1 Finale
Monday October 1, 2012 at 9pm EST on Space

I could not be more surprized at how taken I was by The Almighty Johnsons in Season 1.  The New Zealand set show features Nordic gods & goddess in everyday life with a great re-interpretation of myths yet keeps the epic scale and prophecy vibe to boot.  And how can resist the great sense of humour and a amazing cast?  Not me!  Who knew Axl, Mike, Ty and Olaf would win us over?  Sorry Anders - you still have to prove yourself!  All that and goddesses that kick butt too. I will anxiously await to see how Season 1 wraps up and hope that Space will air Season 2 soon to not leave us hanging. I will miss this amazing show from the Monday night line up, what a gem!

Supernatural Season 8 Premiere
Wednesday October 3, 2012 at 9pm EST on CHCH
Also repeats on Sundays at 8pm EST on Space

Supernatural is one of tried and true stand by shows, which Suzie & I have discussed from the very first episode of Hexed back in February 2010 therefore it's always on our radar. What trouble will the boys get into this season? Or out of? Or both (multiple times)? A series spanning into 8 seasons is a rare thing these days, and I hope they have some goodies tucked up their sleeves for us. I'm also thrilled they changed this to Wednesday night, and that CHCH is airing them concurrently with the CW airings in the States. Thank you!

Primeval Marathons on Space

Image: Andrew-Lee Potts as Connor, Hannah Spearritt as Abby and Ben Miller as Lester

I'm so thrilled to share that Space will be airing Primeval marathons on Sundays all throughout October. I've only caught an episode of the show here & there enough to tell that it looks like fun and that there are dinosaurs, but not having it quite on my radar but with the upcoming Primeval: New World I very much wanted to visit the original series. As luck would have it, all Space watchers can join in the fun and see Primeval from the very beginning.

Here is the Primeval marathon schedule, not that S1 & S2 air on the same day after which is a season a week.

Primeval Season 1 Marathon:
Sunday October 7, 2012 from 6am - 12noon EST on Space

Primeval Season 2 Marathon:
Sunday October 7, 2012 from 12noon - 7pm EST on Space

Primeval Season 3 Marathon:
Sunday October 14, 2012 from 6am - 6pm EST on Space

Primeval Season 4 Marathon:
Sunday October 21, 2012 from 11am - 6pm EST on Space

Primeval Season 5 Marathon:
Sunday October 28, 2012 from 12noon - 6pm EST on Space

Will you be joining in the Primeval Marathon fun? It's a great way to rev up for Primeval: New World which begins Monday October 29, 2012 on Space. Dinosaurs!

Merlin Season 4 Marathon this Victoria Day Monday May 21, 2012 on Space

Photobucket
Image from Merlin, Season 4: Episode 1 - The Darkest Hour Part 1 Colin Morgan as Merlin

Merlin fans rejoice! If you missed out on or want to re-live Season 4 this weekend you will get a chance. What better way to spend a holiday weekend than on Victoria Day enjoying this fantasy/historical series from across the pond?

Merlin Season 4 Marathon
Monday May 21, 2012 from 6am - 9pm EST on Space

I really enjoyed this fourth season of the magical, medieval world of Merlin, and after marathon-ing a few of it's seasons earlier in the year I find watching them several at a time works very well. You can choose to do the same this Monday May 21, 2012 with the marathon on Space.

If you haven't had a chance to check out this fantastic, fun-spirited show that's a new spin on the Arthurian tale from Merlin as a young apprentice perspective, you have time to dive in and catch up with this latest season. The show has been renewed for a 5th season so there no fear that there won't be more Merlin in our future.
