Paranormal Picks of the Week: Finale Madness on Space

Image: Jael de Pardo and Devin Marble in Haunted Highway

The silly season is upon us and before we get into the land of marathons and specials and...well, reruns, we have som finales to keep us busy. We have not one, not two, but THREE finales this week to share from non-fiction to (fictional) aliens, and all on Space. Let's have a look at the three-way-tie for this weeks Paranormal Picks of the Week:

Falling Skies - Season 2 Finale
Monday December 16, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space

I sadly didn't get to see this second season of Falling Skies, although I really loved the show.  But I did find a refresher of Season 2 for for ya: "Falling Skies opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few remaining survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival for these citizen soldiers against the occupying alien force, whose nature and purpose remains a mystery."

Haunted Highway - Season 2 Finale
Wednesday December 18, 2013 at 9pm ET on Space

It's been so much fun to have Haunted Highway back for it's second season, and so great to see Jack, Dana, Devin & Jael back on the tracks of all kinds of legends and paranormal mysteries.  It's gone by so quickly, but even so I'm enjoyed every episode.

Killer Contact - Season 1 Finale
Wednesday December 18, 2013 at 10pm - 12midnight ET on Space

I know it feels like Killer Contact just debuted (which is TRUE!), but with the doubling and tripling up of episodes that means 3 weeks in we are already at the finale of this 6-episode season. Suzie and I discussed the series premiere on last weeks episode of Hexed, and I'm curious to see more although I'm still waiting for them to pop up online at the Space website. Here's hoping they will!

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Alien Mysteries Premiere on Space

After a few weeks of being barraged with new shows, this week things get a little lighter but definitely otherworldly and worth mentioning including this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week of Alien Mysteries on Space.

Alien Mysteries - Series Premiere
Monday October 14, 2013 at 10pm on Space

We are very curious about this show, which feels like the format of Paranormal Witness, but with alien encounters. It's been a while since we've had a new non-fiction series so you can be certain we'll be checking this one out!

Here is the series description: "This imaginative Canadian series candidly chronicles first-person accounts of UFO sightings, alien encounters, and abductions. In each episode, dramatic re-enactments recount stunning real-life, unexplained alien experiences, taking viewers on a thrilling and sometimes terrifying journey. Their bizarre, life-altering encounters are vividly depicted using new, state-of-the-art CGI and green screen technique created by Toronto-based Acme Digital Pictures. Each story also features scientists and researchers who probe the question: How is this possible?"

See more about Alien Mysteries here.

Also Awesome:
  • Falling Skies Season 2 Premiere Monday October 14, 2013 at 9pm on Space; I was more of a fan of this one than Suzie and we are oodles behind the US airing (which has already had Season 3) but I'm still looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
  • Reign Series Premiere Wednesday Oct 16, 2013 at 8pm on M3 (and Thur Oct 17, 2013 at 9pm on The CW). Certainly not paranormal, but we've mentioned the period show Reign a few times on the podcast so if you are curious about it now is the time to check it out.

Ep 115 Paranormal TV Oct 2 - 9, 2012

The season premieres continue to roll in and on this week's episode of Hexed, Suzie & Shannon chat premieres of Supernatural S8, Falling Skies S1 and Bedlam S2, continue to love Haven, Grimm and Alphas as well as living through a pretty challenging episode of Fringe. The big surprize of the week was that we absolutely ADORED the extra-long episode of Paranormal Witness which featured the 1975 Travis Walton abduction, a very dear to our hearts story and the show dealt with it extremely well. Our hearts go out to all of those involved.

We'll be back next week to chat more of all of our shows, plus check in on new series Arrow (which we discuss super-briefly here), Beauty and the Beast as well as the Season 4 Premiere of Vampire Diaries.

Be sure to vote in our new poll of what new shows *you* are adding to your regular viewing schedule. With so much new to enjoy, it's hard to fit it all in! Show Notes

Paranormal Picks of the Week: Premiere Madness ~ Vampire Diaries, Beauty and the Beast, Arrow and Walking Dead

Vampires, Zombies, Superheros and Creatures galore!! It's a busy week of show premieres with Beauty and the Beast & Arrow debuting, as well as the return of The Vampire Diaries and The Walking Dead. With so many amazing shows returning and new hopefuls starting, we can't help but includes so many of them as the Paranormal Pick(s) of the Week

With so many shows on now I was happy to see a healthy amount of repeats, especially for Vampire Diaries & Arrow which have repeat airings early on Friday nights on MuchMusic.  That's smart programming.  We also have some Falling Skies making it's Canadian debut and True Blood Season 4 beginning on Space.  Plus, scary movies The following corresponds to Canadian air dates, but please remember to always check your local listings.

The Vampire Diaries - Season 4 Premiere
Thursday October 11, 2012 at 8pm on CTV
Repeat airing Fridays at 8pm on MuchMusic

The Vampire Diaries holds the honour of being a show that we've talked about since our very first podcast when Vampire Diaries was still in its first season. Although we can harp on it being jammed packed with so much content it's hard to catch everything, and it's certainly gotten harsher over the years, but we still catch it every week (just tone down the torture, would ya?). The series is a spin off from the books by L.J. Smith and follows a human girl who has the same appearance of who stole the hearts of a duo of vampire brothers. Lots of supernatural content of many ilks: high school drama, historical flashbacks, lots of romances and bucket loads of social events the show has won over a very dedicated fan base. See podcasts & posts discussing Vampire Diaries here.

The Walking Dead - Season 3 Premiere
Sunday October 14, 2012 at 9pm on AMC

If you need to catch up or want to dive into The Walking Dead for the first time, AMC is re-airing the entire series up until the Season 3 premiere. See Season 1 on Saturday October 13, 2012 starting from 10am; Season 2 re-airs as of Saturday October 13, 2012 at 4:53pm as well as Sunday October 14, 2012 6:51am.

We only check in on this one occasionally and we’ve both had strong feelings in both directions on this on, although we both came to enjoy it more in Season 2.  Who knows, maybe it will get added to this years talking roster! See all podcasts and posts where we’ve discussed The Walking Dead here

Arrow - Series Premiere
Wednesday October 10, 2012 at 8pm on CTV two
Repeat airing Fridays at 8pm on MuchMusic

Arrow is a new CW series is a "modern retelling of the story of DC Comics character Green Arrow." starring Stephen Amell (Heartland, Private Practice), Colin Donnell, Katie Cassidy (S3 Ruby on Supernatural), David Ramsey, Willa Holland, with Susanna Thompson and Paul Blackthorne (The Gates, The Dresdin Files, The River).  I know this is one of my most anticipated new series of the fall 2012 season, and Suzie & I will be sure to chat about it on the podcast.  See all podcasts and posts where we've discussed Arrow so far here.

Beauty and the Beast - Series Premiere
Thursday October 11, 2012 at 9pm on Showcase
Repeats Friday at 6pm on Showcase

Another CW series, and it won out over the 2 Beauty and the Beast series between The CW and ABC.  This one is "loosely based on the 1980s CBS series starring Linda Hamilton, Beauty And The Beast is a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist."  and stars Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) and Jay Ryan (Terra Nova).  I'm a little more skeptical of this one, and keep trying not to hold the fact that it's taking the timeslot of Secret Circle, but a strong female protagonist and the nouveau gothic vibe to it, I definitely want to check it out.  I'm sure we will chat about it on Hexed, and you cans see all podcasts and posts where we've discussed Beauty and the Beast so far here.

Also Awesome Picks:

  • Falling Skies - Season 1 Begins on Space Monday October 8, 2012 at 9PM.  If we weren't over a year behind on Falling Skies, this would TOTALLY be my #1 pick this week.  I'm super exciting that it will finally begin to air here in Canada.
  • True Blood - Season 4 Begins on Space Sunday October 14, 2012 at 10pm ET; although it first aired on HBO Canada last summer, if you haven't seen Season 4 now you can catch up on Space (I might do this myself as I'm very behind on my True Blood viewing!).
  • Haunted Thanksgiving on Space Thanksgiving Monday October 8, 2012, will air: THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY, DARK WATER, THE VILLAGE,THE MIST, 1408, and PARANORMAL ACTIVITY from 6AM to 9PM.
  • Haunted House Movies on TCM CanadaWednesday October 10, 2012 - TCM is airing an awesome line of creepy movies including one of my favourite movies and scary haunted house movie The Haunting, plus The Haunting of Hill House, the Uninvited and more into the wee hours of the night.  Looks like an awesome selection. See schedule here.
  • Stephen King films on AMC Canada Thursday October 11, 2012 & Friday October 12, 2012- Talk about an amazing line up from The Dead Zone, The Graveyard Shift, Thinner Christine, Cujo, Pet Sematary & Pet Sematary II.  See schedule here.

Falling Skies comes to Space October 8, 2012

Image: Falling Skies - Premieres Monday, October 8 at 9 p.m. ET

I'm so excited to shared that Falling Skies will start airing in Canada on Space Channel starting October 9, 2012. It's a science fiction / alien invasion show starting Noah Wyle (ER) and feels totally up our alley. I've been keeping my eye out for this show ever since it start airing in the States in June 2011 on TNT, and since then it's completed 2 full seasons and has a third in the works for 2013. I don't know much more about it as I've avoided reading details in hopes that it would one day come to Canada, and Space brings that day to light! YAY!

If you'd like to see more about the broadcast & the show, here are the details from the media release: "Toronto, ON (September 6, 2012) – The battle has begun. Following a devastating invasion by an alien culture, the survivors of Earth fight back while they figure out who the alien life form is, and more importantly, why they have come to Earth in FALLING SKIES. The acclaimed series airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET beginning October 8 on SPACE. With everyday people called upon to become heroes, FALLING SKIES focuses on the endurance and courage of the survivors as they try to maintain their humanity when all else has been destroyed.

At the centre of FALLING SKIES is Tom Mason (Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee Noah Wyle, ER), a Boston history professor whose family was torn apart during the invasion. With his wife killed and middle son captured by the aliens, Tom puts his extensive knowledge of military history to use as the second in command of the 2nd Massachusetts, a regiment of resistance fighters working to protect a large group of civilian survivors.

Fighting alongside Tom is Anne Glass (Moon Bloodgood, Terminator Salvation) a paediatrician working with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic upheaval in their lives, and Weaver (Will Patton, Armageddon), a fierce military leader of the resistance and Tom’s commanding officer.

FALLING SKIES also stars Drew Roy (Secretariat) as Tom’s oldest son Hal, a growing fighter in the resistance movement, Maxim Knight (BROTHERS & SISTERS) as Tom’s youngest son Matt, and Connor Jessup (THE SADDLE CLUB) as Ben, Tom’s son who was captured by aliens. Seychelle Gabriel (WEEDS) is Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps Anne in the group’s makeshift medical clinic, Colin Cunningham (LIVING IN YOUR CAR) is John Pope, the head of a gang, and Sarah Sanguin Carter (SHARK) is Margaret, a wary survivor from Pope’s gang.

As mysterious as they are merciless, the aliens who have invaded Earth are highly intelligent and use military-like tactics, which makes them an overwhelming force against the resistance. They are fast, strong, and extremely difficult to kill. Having encountered two types of aliens, the survivors have dubbed them “skitters,” for the ones that move around on spider-like legs, and “mechs,” for the heavily armed robot-like versions."

Will you be checking out Falling Skies? I know I will!
