The 26th Gemini Awards Nominations have been announced and I'm really excited that many of the shows that Suzie & I talk about here at Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural are up for awards! For anyone unfamiliar with the Gemini's there are the Canadian TV awards, or more formally "The Gemini Awards honour the best in Canadian television as determined by members of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television and other industry professionals". I love FAQ pages. The qualifying period is between May 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011 and for series' 50% of the series must first broadcast at that time.
So, back to the shows. Looking at TV shows that Suzie & I talk about here at Hexed so that means shows of a paranormal persuasion with some scifi and crime sneaking in. Leading the way for our faves is Lost Girl & Being Human (North American) with 5 nominations each! I'm particularly excited about Lost Girl as we have been huge supporters of the show since it's very first episode, especially Ksenia Solo who plays Kenzi and she has her very own nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series in Oh Kappa My Kappa/Sorority/Fae Day. Lost Girl is also up for Best Writing in a Dramatic Series, Best Photography in a Dramatic Program or Series, Best Achievement in Casting (Vexed) and Best Cross-Platform Project - Fiction (Digital Media). It's exciting times for Lost Girl, after the recent news of Season 2 going to 22 episodes, being at ComicCon and a strong presence at the upcoming FanExpo, they are going to be busy, busy faes!
Being Human (North American) is also up for 5 nominations including genre traditional nods for Best Achievement in Make-Up and Best Visual Effects, plus Best Direction in a Dramatic Series and Best Picture Editing in a Dramatic Program or Series. But I think the biggest and bloody nod goes to Sam Witwer who plays Aidan and is up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role for the episode I Want You Back (From the Dead). He's up against some very impressive competition: Enrico Colantoni for Flashpoint, Hugh Dillion for Durham Country, Callum Keith Rennie for Shattered and Michael Riley for Being Erica. Wow. That is an impressive group of talented actors.
From the happy to the not so, I'm a little saddened and shocked to see one of our most beloved shows, Haven, is only up for 1 nomination: Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series - John Dunsworth as Dave Teagues in Spiral/Ball and Chain. It's a well deserved nomination, especially as his performance in Spiral truly is amazing and he has of the best moments of the season but I really would have loved to see more acknowledgements here. Specifically for the brilliant writing on the show which obvious has a long term plan and also for performance by Emily Rose as the series lead character Audrey.
Looking through the nominations I spotted several of the series we've talked about on occasion here at Hexed, including the sadly-cancelled Endgame with an impressive 5 nominations (seriously... that show was awesome. And why no nomination for Shawn Doyle? He's fantastic!), 3 nominations for The Listener & Sanctuary and 2 nominations for Stargate Universe. Lots of sideways competition with several of the shows up for visual effects & make up which tend to be half genre shows and half period shows, like The Tudors & The Borgias alongside Being Human, Sanctuary & Stargate Universe for Visual Effects.

Teen Wolf: Season 1 Episode 10
Time for another episode run down for Teen Wolf, and yes it will include spoilers (see big SPOILER warning below!!) for the particular episode, but only the episode noted in the post title as I don't watch trailers, teasers or read spoiler articles. It may also include predictions for future episodes, but all the views are entirely from the perspective of watching the actual episode. Okay, let's get started!

Teen Wolf Season 1
Episode 10: Co-Captain
Focus: Honestly, this episode felt very unfocused. But technically it's the alpha seeming into people lives and creating havoc.
Title Reference:
Scott & Jackson are co-captains of the lacrosse team, and Scott steps in to help Jackson when Derek attacks him. There is also clearly a power reference here too, as we've been talking alphas and betas for the season, the idea of balanced power & working together is a new idea introduced. But, negative points here for the title referencing something at the *very end* of the show.
Characters Development:
Danny scores (in lacrosse) a lot, Scott happily passes to him
Alpha's name is Peter (who knew?) and says that he is killing 'those responsible'
Derek appears to be going along with the Alphas wishes
Something hinted about Stiles' family, his Dad said (I think) I miss him (?) and I miss your Mom.
Relationships:
Scott's Mom goes on a date with Peter/Alpha
Lots of cute Scott & Allison stuff, although they don't officially seem back together

General Comments:
I really feel like this episode was all over the place and I have to dock it points for the super-quick-drunkness of Stiles' Dad and the title being something from the very end of the show. Looks like we do have a good sense of where it's going for the rest of the season and I like that the Alpha has revealed but not super excited about who it is. Also felt a few vampire references - Derek can't be photographed, the quip about 'inviting' Peter in, bloodlust
Lore:
Alpha can scratch people (or more likely just other werewolves) and have them see his memories
Derek can't be clearly photographed
Potential lore-ish stuff that isn't yet confirmed, explained or clear yet:
Hunters have at least 2 types of arrow heads that do stuff or possible just annoy werewolves, at least 1 really huts them
Arc:
Looks like Peter is taking revenge on those responsible for the fire
Predictions:
I'm thinking it's going to come to an Alpha vs Scott showdown, but they might have to team up to save Derek first.
I don't think it will be Jackson & Scott vs anyone, even though Scott saved Jackson.
Possibly Jackson & Stiles are long lost brothers (Jackson is adopted, remember!)
Questions:
Is Derek just going along with his uncle, or does he believe him?
Who is the woman at the hospital?
How is Peter now fine? There was a few memory montages, but I didn't piece it together concretely
What did Stiles' Dad say when drunk? It sounded like I miss him (who?) and your mom, and there was a hint there of possibly he had a brother? ZOMG - I wonder if it's Jackson.
Keeping an eye on:
Lydia - she's not had much going on for a bit and she's gotta be on the show for a reason! And totally weird that Allison took her to the woods to test the arrows

Teen Wolf Season 1
Episode #9: Wolf's Bane
Focus: Alpha revealed!
Title Reference: Jackson seems to be able to torment Scott and be a 'bane' to him. Odd.
Characters Development:
- Derek is hiding out at Stiles' house
- Danny has a (old) history of cracking tech-stuff
- Jackson figures out (but never actually verbalized) that he knows Scott is a werewolf, he also has the power to key into and annoy Scott's heightened senses.
- It appears that Scott's Mom is helping the Alpha
- Alpha is revealed to be Derek's Uncle
- Scott is clueless! Sends Allison cute pictures of them together, even though now they aren't together.
- Jackson dumps Lydia - pretty cruel-ly too. With no 'ha ha'.
- Scott's Mom is the person who sent to text to Allison to meet him at the school in Night School.
- Mr. Harris (Chemistry teacher) is aware of, and scared of the Alpha - plus he helped a woman years ago accidentily with information on how to do things like burn down a house.
- Alpha is revealed to be Derek's Uncle
I'm really surprized at who the Alpha is, I mean I only have him noted as "Derek's Uncle" and I don't remember his name. Was he pretending he couldn't do anything before? Does he have to be 'activated' or something? I'm totally getting a mad scientist vibe from the whole thing. Plus, totally shocked Scott's Mom appears to be helping the Alpha and also crazy surprized that Derek turned on his kin so quickly. I thought the episode might have been stronger if it solely focused on the Alpha stuff, and left the Jackson-taunting-Scott in an earlier episode. And even though it was in questionable taste, I think the whole Derek-as-Stiles-cousin-Miguel who had to change in front of Danny to get him to help was hilarious.
Lore:
- Jackson had Acanite (aka Wolf's Bane) poisoning and had the ability to annoy Scott through triggering his height senses.
- Infererd that only an Alpha can bite-and-turn a werewolf
- Looks like The Alpha was 'created' or 'enhanced' through science in some way
- The Hunters think Jackson might be the Beta - could Derek have done this on purpose to throw them off the scent of Scott?
- Why would Scott's Mom help The Alpha? What does The Alpha want? Revenge on the hunters? With both those in mind it's very odd that he's turn Scott.
I'm at a loss! I feel like there will be an Alpha/Hunter showdown but that doesn't actually involve the main folks so feels illogical. Perhaps there will have to be a sacrifice of someone (Scott? Allison?) and then they will have to be saved by someone else.
Questions:
- How did the Alpha become an Alpha?
- What makes Derek's uncle unresponsive in 'normal' state in the hospital?
- Are their betas in the born-into-werewolf werewolves?
- Everything and everyone! What will Lydia do? Hmm, Lydia shows up here quite a lot.
- I want to not feel scared - Allison
- At the lacrosse game, Aunt Kate sees the scratches on Jackson and thinks he could be a Beta.

Teen Wolf, Season 1 Episode 8

Teen Wolf Season 1
Episode #8: Lunatic
Focus:
Mostly unfocused, it's the full moon, Scott's out of control, Jackson & Allison are curious about stuff and looking like they are going to figure things out as are Kate & Chris (Allison's Dad & Aunt) and Derek is alive and prevents Scott from attacking Allison & Jackson.
Title Reference:
Scott's mom says the term lunatic comes from the full moon (luna = moon)
Character Development:
- Derek is alive
- Allison is grumpy and sad about not being with Scott
- Scott is grumpy not being with Allison
- Stiles is grumpy because Scott kissed Lydia
- Lydia & Scott kiss! Oh my!
- Jackson & Allison continue to spend time with each other, and confide that they don't think Derek was responsible for what's been happening
- Derek is alive. ALIVE!
- Scott infers that it's the Alpha that bit him (I don't think this is confirmed)
- Kate looks like she might have figured out that the 'smaller' werewolf could be a younger wolf
- Handcuffs can not keep a werewolf contained
- Derek says there is a potential cure for a bitten-created werewolf, by killing the one that bit them
- Scott 'sees' red-vision of Allison with Jackson messing around, but they actually weren't - does this mean his other visions could have been also wrong interpretations, or implanted images?
- Looks like Scott & Derek will go after the Alpha together as now Scott wants to kill the Alpha as a possible 'cure' for bitten-werewolf ism but lots of catches - 1) was it the Alpha that bit him and 2)It's unconfirmed that this will work.
- Kate will figure out Scott is a werewolf & try to kill him, pitting Allison against her.
- Derek & Scott will kill the alpha, but it won't cure Scott
- If this was the full moon, how come nothing happened to Jackson? What is going on with him? Will we see more full-moon-ness next week?
- Odd that Scott in transition is not very suave, but Jackson in whatever stage of whatever he is going through is more suave.
- Who died (burning? ) when Stiles comes out to see his dad - who killed them, how, why?
- Lydia, as always - why isn't she noticing or annoyed that Jackson is spending time with Allison?
- If you help me find him, I'll help you kill him - Derek to Scott
- Everyone likes Danny. Now they'll all hate you. Stiles to Scott
- I feel like there is a dis-continuity between the end of episode 7 and this episode, as we left with Scott saying he think he has to leave 'his pack', but he actually just stops seeing Allison at *her* request, and maintains friendship with Stiles.
- Also - zero explanation as to how Derek could be alive after the attack, although I am glad to have him back. Derek-less episodes aren't okay with this viewer!
- All around I think it was a bit of a messy episodes, but there was some good fun kicking around too like Allison zapping her teddy bear and the awkward conversation between Stiles & Scott's Mom when he lets himself into Scott's house.

Jackson pieces together (literally) Scott's werewolf nail from the car roof to the torn lacrosse glove.

Teen Wolf: Season 1 Episode 7

Teen Wolf Season 1
Ep#7 Night School
Focus: Scott, Stiles and eventually Allison, Jackson and Lydia are trapped in school while the alpha baits, taunts and torments them. Scott blames all the recent deaths on Derek, because he thinks he's already dead so it doesn't matter (weird).
Title Reference: Folks are stuck in school.... at night. And there is some 'learning'. Pretty weak title.
Character Development
Lydia almost to the rescue with a recipe for self combusing molotov cocktail, too bad Jackson handed her the wrong chemical to not make it work!
Relationships:
Jackson and Allison continue to be friendly, Lydia starts to notice and doen't appear to like it.
Scott and Stiles disagree a lot and can see the strain on the friendship
Allison doens't want to Scott to put himself in danger, eventually tells him to back off
Scott decides he needs to break from 'his pack' or friends.. to protect them
Reveals
Lots of opportunity for reveals, but I don't think we got any.
General Comments
It's now feeling way to obvious for the vet to be Alpha
How on EARTH could we go the whole show without a Derek update! Seriously... is he dead, regenerating, alive, mutating into a alpha hybrid, going for ice cream... I mean, come one! Derek-less show is not okay!
I'm totally unimpressed that Scott through Derek under the bus
The effects of the chemical on the alpha looked awful!
I felt this was the weakest episode so far, mostly 1 location, lots of push/pull on being hunted and then left alone by the alpha, plus it was a missed opportunity to have the rest of the non-friend (Allison, Lydia & Jackson) gang 'see' the alpha and therefore let in on the truth and then they could all try to work together.
Lore:
Alpha can howl to make the other werewolves succumb to pain and turn - Jackson did fall down in pain here, but didn't turn but Scott started to.
Potential Lore
I didn't get anything new.
Arc
Stiles thinks the vet is the alpha
But, if being in wolf form heals, the vet can't be the alpha as he was getting treatment from EMS post-transformation
Predictions
I think Stiles might try the tough love approach and still try and help Scott even though he's giving the more than arms distance lenght on the subject. He may cave and tell one either Allison, Jackson or Lydia (I'm thinking Allison with the emotional card of being tormented by Scotts odd behaviour or he might let it slip to Lydia if she tries to get back at Jackson by luring him romantically).
Maybe this whole thing was a superbig test with Derek & the Alpha together!
I think there is a possibility that Jackson is a born-werewolf - remember how we found out he is adopted? Maybe he is even Derek's brother or from a rival clan. His transformation/reaction could be some form of strenght or resilience test.
Questions
What makes the alpha different? The wolf actually looks different when transformed - is it a by birth werewolf, or a bitten werewolf, or a combination? And,... can an alpha be an alpha without a pack?
The janitor's body is missing... could he end up a werewolf?
Who texted Allison - I'm thinking it' ain't the Alpha - hard to text with those big paws they have! What is happening to Jackson? Is he turning into an alpha? or a mini-alpha?

Episode 6: Heart Monitor
Focus: Stiles and Derek both vy to be Scott's Yoda by trying to train him to tap into (Derek method) or suppress (Stiles method) his anger.
Title reference:
Very literal as Stiles steals a heart monitor and phone from coach to monitor Scott, and double play of Scott's romantic leanings to Allison.
Character Development
The alpha marks a swirl on the car window Scott is in, it's a sign of a vendetta.
Jackson - weirdness on all fronts, has vision of monster hand coming out of his mouth and later is almost successfully makes a very friendly pass at Allison.
Allison learns family hunter history dates back to Louis XV time when they found La Bete ...... can't remember the name *
Dereks uncle can be responsive, but Derek was too impatient to see it
Relationships
Scott realizes he loves Allison (by telling Stiles)

Jackson is acting the pants off of everyone elese on the show
Inferred that werewolves can't tell if each other is a werewolf when in human form as it's Derek seems to think the Vet is one and beats him up, but it's never said that he is one.
Totally freaked out to see Scott wear a short sleeved shirt over a long sleeved one. Has that been gone long enough to be back?
Liked how Allison was into her family history.

Werewolves can come to be via 2 methods (at least) 1 - born that way (Derek) or 2 - bitten (Scott).

We've previously seen that Derek has 3 swirls on his back, possibly indicating he's successfully completed 3 vendettas, likely those who started the fire? Or is it werewolf to werewolf vendettas?
Predictions
I think that Derek's Uncle coma like state is induced because he has been hurt beyond the way to transform therefore has lost himself, or a large part of himself this way.
I'm still thinking the teacher is the alpha - did you see the transition lens? It's all about the cool factor and he can be a predator easily.
I'm thinking there might be a connection between Lydia & the Alpha which would explain her freak out a few episodes ago, something other than just seeing it - because she's not talking about it. Does she know what an alpha is?.

Ep 66 Fanboy Confessional Interview with Michael McNamara
This week we have a special treat for Hexed listeners! Today we have an interview with Fanboy Confessional writer/director Michael McNamara. Suzie & Shannon have touched on Fanboy Confessional on recent episodes of the podcast and look forward to it's July 13th debut on Space!
We also have no actual TV show talk this week as Shannon is in preparation of moving to her new home. I know you are all missing Suzie's voice but we will be back together again next week after Shannon's (hopefully smooth) move. At that point we'll catch up and discuss 2 new episodes of Teen Wolf, the final 2 episdoes of Fact of Faked Season 2, Haunted Collector and maybe even the new show Alphas.
