Primeval Marathons on Space

Image: Andrew-Lee Potts as Connor, Hannah Spearritt as Abby and Ben Miller as Lester

I'm so thrilled to share that Space will be airing Primeval marathons on Sundays all throughout October. I've only caught an episode of the show here & there enough to tell that it looks like fun and that there are dinosaurs, but not having it quite on my radar but with the upcoming Primeval: New World I very much wanted to visit the original series. As luck would have it, all Space watchers can join in the fun and see Primeval from the very beginning.

Here is the Primeval marathon schedule, not that S1 & S2 air on the same day after which is a season a week.

Primeval Season 1 Marathon:
Sunday October 7, 2012 from 6am - 12noon EST on Space

Primeval Season 2 Marathon:
Sunday October 7, 2012 from 12noon - 7pm EST on Space

Primeval Season 3 Marathon:
Sunday October 14, 2012 from 6am - 6pm EST on Space

Primeval Season 4 Marathon:
Sunday October 21, 2012 from 11am - 6pm EST on Space

Primeval Season 5 Marathon:
Sunday October 28, 2012 from 12noon - 6pm EST on Space

Will you be joining in the Primeval Marathon fun? It's a great way to rev up for Primeval: New World which begins Monday October 29, 2012 on Space. Dinosaurs!

Primeval: New World Premieres on Space Monday October 29, 2012

Image from Primeval: New World - Episode 1 The New World
(L-R) Dylan Weir (Sara Canning), Evan Cross (Niall Matter), Angelika Finch (Miranda Frigon), Toby Nance (Crystal Lowe), Mac Rendell (Danny Rahim)

We have a premiere date for the new series Primeval: New World, and it's just a month away. On Monday October 29, 2012 Space will premiere Primeval: New World at 10pm EST/7pm PST.  The show has a 13 episode run and is a spin-off of the British show Primeval, but with New World set in Vancouver and stars Niall Matter (Eureka) and Sara Canning (Aunt Jenna from The Vampire Diaries). Primeval regular Andrew Lee Potts will guest stars as his character Connor Temple.

Although we've been keeping an eye on the show since way back in February, I'm pretty new to the Primeval world, and pretty much just know there are dinosaurs but I'm really excited to catch up with the original series. And if you want to catch up with series too, we'll have our chance as Space is airing Primeval marathons on Sundays all throughout October. Word is, you don't need to see the original show to enjoy the new one, but being a completist myself, I can't resist the challenge of going all in. The show also has a new website to enjoy as well. Fun times.

Here is more about Primeval: New World from the media release:

"Prehistoric creatures are about to invade Vancouver with the premiere of the highly-anticipated SPACE original series, PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD. Sinking its teeth into SPACE’s fall lineup beginning Monday, Oct. 29 at 10 p.m. ET, the series stars a flock of genre luminaries, including Niall Matter (EUREKA) and Sara Canning (VAMPIRE DIARIES). The North American spin-off follows a specialized team of animal experts and scientists who discover dinosaurs and other dangerous predators emerging onto the streets of modern-day Vancouver through anomalies in time, and features guest star Andrew Lee Potts as Connor Temple from the original U.K. series. Featuring over 70 visual effects shots in each of the 13 one-hour episodes, the monster of a series will also include 16 land, sea, sky, and sand creatures created by Atmosphere Visual Effects, supervised by Mark Savela (STARGATE UNIVERSE).

Leading up to the premiere, fans can fulfill their curiosity about the new series through the official, soon-to-launch, PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD website featuring an episode guide, cast bios, behind the scenes content, and more. Users can also download high quality visual effects from the series and insert themselves into the dino-action via green screen. A mobile action game is also set to unleash before the premiere, and will take fans inside the series via their IOS devices, as they defend the streets of Vancouver from dinosaur attacks. Users can inhabit a team member and work to capture creatures and rescue civilians. Episodes of PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD will also be available online at SPACEcast.com following their premiere.

In PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD, while investigating temporal anomalies, a Special Projects Group battles prehistoric creatures. Led by Evan Cross (Matter), an enterprising inventor and visionary hero, the team is comprised of predator attack expert and specialist in animal behaviour Dylan Weir (Canning), security specialist Mac Rendell (Danny Rahim, EAST ENDERS), and physics prodigy Toby Nance (Crystal Lowe, SMALLVILLE). Ange Finch (Miranda Frigon, HEARTLAND), Evan's oldest friend and business partner, keeps things afloat while Evan and his group track the escapee dinosaurs, with the overeager help of Lieutenant Ken Leeds (Geoff Gustafson, Hot Tub Time Machine), head of the government’s decommissioned department for investigating alien life and other mysteries. On board this season as directors are sci-fi queen Amanda Tapping (SANCTUARY), Andy Mikita (STARGATE UNIVERSE), Martin Wood (SANCTUARY), and Mike Rohl (SMALLVILLE). "

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Three Way Tie of Haven, Fringe & Grimm Returns

I know, I know.  I should pick just one.  But I can't.

We are right in the middle of the big launch weeks of TV and I can't decide between the awesomeness of Haven Season 3 Premiere (the lucky Americans got it last week!), the beginning of the final season of Fringe and the return of Grimm as it hits it's new Friday night home.

And considering all of these shows are in the EXACT SAME TIMESLOT and they all repeat in timeshifting at the EXACT SAME TIME, I feel completely justified not to choose. Therefore, this weeks Paranormal Pick of the Week is the Friday Night Three Way Tie of Haven, Fringe & Grimm:

Haven Season 3 Premiere
Friday September 28, 2012 at 9pm EST on Showcase

Suzie & I have been watching, loving and podcasting through the entire series of Haven and are really excited for it's return. It's a fabulous show following FBI Agent Audrey Parker who finds she has a particular talent for helping the people of Haven with their unexplainable afflictions coined 'The Troubles', as well as having her own possible history with the town. Teaming up with local cop Nathan and often helped or hindered by importer/exporter Duke, this series has both the trouble-of-the-week as well as a larger mystery to uncover.  I'm still a little steamy that we get it an entire week behind the US airings, but hoping that maybe we'll be in alignment as the season goes on.  See podcasts & posts discussing Haven here.

Fringe Season 5 Premiere
Friday September 28, 2012 at 9pm EST on CityTV

We started podcasting through Fringe regularly last year with Season 4, after Shannon did a catch up marathon of Seasons 1 – 3 during the summer.  The show is centred on Fringe science, delving into the unknown and aligning the impossible with possible. Fringe often uses a mystery-of-the-week format but also has longer term arcs as well, and although I wasn't super thrilled with Season 4 I am very curious see how they round out the series in it's fifth and final season. See podcasts & posts discussing Fringe here.

Grimm Season 2 Return & Switch to Friday Night
Friday September 28, 2012 at 9pm EST on CTV

We only spoke of it occasionally of Grimm during Season 1, but as of the Season 2 start we decided to add it to our regularly discussed shows so we are definitely going to keep going on that train and see how Season 2 continues.  Grimm is set in Oregon and follows a new-to-his-talents Grimm, which is a criminal profiler who can see mythological creatures what blend into normal society.  See all podcasts and posts where we’ve discussed Grimm here.

I'm so stumped that they all play & repeat at the same time, and so jealous of PVR folk who can record more than 1 thing at a time.  I know there is the option of watching On Demand or online, but I've haven't had a lot of success with the reliability of either of those options.  I might have to getold-school creative for these.

Also Awesome:
  • Elementary Series Premiere Thursday 10pm EST on Global; new spin on Sherlock Holmes set in current day starring Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu and Aidan Quinn. Although this show likely won't have a paranormal edge to it, it certainly looks fabulous.  Very curious to see how it turns out.
  • Last Resort Series Premiere Thursday September 27, 2012 at 8pm EST on Global; a submarine crew goes against orders and again not likely to have paranormal spin but with the take-a-stand/likely-limited-location and do the right thing feel, it's definitely worth checking out.  Cast includes Andre Braugher, Scott Speedman and Daisy Betts.

Ep 113: Paranormal TV September 12 - 18, 2012

On this weeks episode of Hexed, Suzie & Shannon are having fun with the new show Hot Set, continuing to love Face Off and totally swooned by The Almightly Johnsons.  We also check out the series premiere of Revolution and speak very briefly on a very disturbing episode of Paranormal Witness.  We do talk about the shows in depth, so please watch them first and then listen & enjoy.

Remember: lots of shows come back or start next week (Grimm, Fringe, Haven, Last Resort & Elementary), but they will air after we record so we won't be talking about them quite just yet.

We will be back next week to chat Alphas, The Almighty Johnsons and Face Off, one of our new fave with Hot Set and also checking out more Paranormal Witness and a further check in on how Revolution shapes up in it's second episodes.

Please vote in our poll on what you thought of Revolution! ---->

Hexed: Sisterhood of the Supernatural
All Supernatural TV.  All the Time.

Tatiana Maslany Cast as Lead in Orphan Black

Image: Tatiana Maslany stars as Sarah in ORPHAN BLACK, Photo Courtesy Mercedes Grundy

News of the Orphan Black started cropping up a few months ago, a new scripted drama ordered by Space from Temple Street Productions about a street smart girl got my attention but I wanted to know more before sharing. Now we have news that Tatiana Maslany (Grown Up Movie Star, The Vow) has been cast in the lead in the series, I'm definitely in. She was formidable in Grown Up Movie Star and in Orphan Black it turns out her character is also a 'genetically identical individual', aka clone, and these clones are being hunted down by assassins. Yep. That's hooked me. I want to know more, and I can't wait to see more.

The 10-episode series is heading into production October 2012, and they say additional casting will be revealed soon. I'm excited.

Here's more about the series from the media release: "In ORPHAN BLACK, Maslany stars as Sarah, an outsider, orphan, and street-wise chameleon who has a murky past and tenuous future after she witnesses a woman’s suicide. After deciding to assume the identity of the dead stranger who looks just like her, Sarah learns the dizzying truth – that she and the dead woman are clones. As Sarah searches for answers, she discovers another chilling fact: there are more clones out there. They are all genetically identical individuals who were planted in unsuspecting birth parents and nurtured in completely different circumstances. They have no idea who created them – or why – but they need to discover the reason in a hurry. An assassin is killing them, one by one." Orphan Black is noted as a 10 episode series, and is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with Bell Media and BBC America. See more about Tatiana Maslany, Temple Street Productions, BBC America and Space here.

We are curious to hear your thought on Orphan Black! Feel free to share in the comments.

Image: Cast of Revolution

Our first new series premieres this week with Revolution hitting the cable waves tonight, Monday night on CityTV here in Canada (concurrent with the US airing on NBC, Mondays at 10pm/9c) at 10 PM / ET. From our recent poll, Revolution landed first place in a three-way tie for of your Most Anticipated New Paranormal Show starting new fall. That makes it easily the Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Revolution Premiere
Monday Sept 17, 2012 at 10PM ET/PT on CityTV

If you need a memory jogger of the show, it's got a survivalist feel and is from both the Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and Lost creator J.J. Abrams are executive executive producers; cast includes Billy Burke (Charlie from the Twilight films), Tracy Spiridakos (Brynn on Being Human North American) and Giancarlo Esposito (Once Upon a Time). Here are also some descriptions of the series:

Original Description: "Follows a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist."
Updated Description: "After 15 years of darkness, an unlikely group sets out to save the world."
Genre: Originally we had this as paranormal, but now it looks a survivalist drama
The People: Both Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and Lost creator J.J. Abrams are executive executive producers; cast includes Billy Burke (Charlie from the Twilight films), Tracy Spiridakos (Brynn on Being Human North American) and Giancarlo Esposito (Once Upon a Time).

I'm definitely interested in Revolution, although I'm a little sad it conflicts with Alphas which is also on Mondays at 10pm on Space until October 22, 2012. Thank goodness for timeshifting! See more about Revolution the cast, crew & show here and the shows website at CityTV and website at NBC.

Also Awesome This Week:
  • Sinbad Season 1 Finale Sunday September 23, 2012 at 7pm ET/9pm PT on Space, after travelling all summer with Sinbad and his ragtag crew of misfits and I'm looking forward to seeing how the season will wrap up. Still waiting to here if it will be renewed, and we'll be sure to share when we find out. And US readers you will get a chance to see the series as it will will air in April 2013 on SyFy.
  • Hot Set Series Premiere Starts Sept 18, 2012 at 10pm ET on Space (it will air concurrently with US broadcast on SyFy). This is a set design show from Face Off creators and Suzie & I chatted about it last week on Hexed and are really excited to see what it's all about.

Falling Skies comes to Space October 8, 2012

Image: Falling Skies - Premieres Monday, October 8 at 9 p.m. ET

I'm so excited to shared that Falling Skies will start airing in Canada on Space Channel starting October 9, 2012. It's a science fiction / alien invasion show starting Noah Wyle (ER) and feels totally up our alley. I've been keeping my eye out for this show ever since it start airing in the States in June 2011 on TNT, and since then it's completed 2 full seasons and has a third in the works for 2013. I don't know much more about it as I've avoided reading details in hopes that it would one day come to Canada, and Space brings that day to light! YAY!

If you'd like to see more about the broadcast & the show, here are the details from the media release: "Toronto, ON (September 6, 2012) – The battle has begun. Following a devastating invasion by an alien culture, the survivors of Earth fight back while they figure out who the alien life form is, and more importantly, why they have come to Earth in FALLING SKIES. The acclaimed series airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET beginning October 8 on SPACE. With everyday people called upon to become heroes, FALLING SKIES focuses on the endurance and courage of the survivors as they try to maintain their humanity when all else has been destroyed.

At the centre of FALLING SKIES is Tom Mason (Golden Globe and Emmy Award-nominee Noah Wyle, ER), a Boston history professor whose family was torn apart during the invasion. With his wife killed and middle son captured by the aliens, Tom puts his extensive knowledge of military history to use as the second in command of the 2nd Massachusetts, a regiment of resistance fighters working to protect a large group of civilian survivors.

Fighting alongside Tom is Anne Glass (Moon Bloodgood, Terminator Salvation) a paediatrician working with the surviving children to help them cope with the traumatic upheaval in their lives, and Weaver (Will Patton, Armageddon), a fierce military leader of the resistance and Tom’s commanding officer.

FALLING SKIES also stars Drew Roy (Secretariat) as Tom’s oldest son Hal, a growing fighter in the resistance movement, Maxim Knight (BROTHERS & SISTERS) as Tom’s youngest son Matt, and Connor Jessup (THE SADDLE CLUB) as Ben, Tom’s son who was captured by aliens. Seychelle Gabriel (WEEDS) is Lourdes, an orphaned teenager who helps Anne in the group’s makeshift medical clinic, Colin Cunningham (LIVING IN YOUR CAR) is John Pope, the head of a gang, and Sarah Sanguin Carter (SHARK) is Margaret, a wary survivor from Pope’s gang.

As mysterious as they are merciless, the aliens who have invaded Earth are highly intelligent and use military-like tactics, which makes them an overwhelming force against the resistance. They are fast, strong, and extremely difficult to kill. Having encountered two types of aliens, the survivors have dubbed them “skitters,” for the ones that move around on spider-like legs, and “mechs,” for the heavily armed robot-like versions."

Will you be checking out Falling Skies? I know I will!

Ep 111 Paranormal TV August 28 - Sept 3, 2012

On this weeks episode of Hexed, Suzie & Shannon are back on yet another new feed (we really hope this is the last move, thanks for your patience!) and with the Labour Day weekend it's a quiet TV week but we catch up with new episodes of Grimm, Face Off and Sinbad. And a bit of a disclaimer on Grimm, please remember Shannon hasn't seen all of S1 so their may be some muddling through names, terms, creatures and the like.

We'll be back next week with lots of our regs back on of Alphas, The Almighty Johnsons, more Face Off and hopefully even getting to see the new series of Beauty and the Beast. Be sure to vote in our poll on what new paranormal TV you will be checking out this fall.

Paranormal Pick of the Week: Supernatural in Syndication on Space!

Image: Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester and Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester

Whose up for watching the Winchester brothers battle evil from the beginning? Or have you yet to jump on to the Supernatural train...er...Impala? Either way, Space is giving you the chance to see the series from the very beginning. I can't tell you how easy it was to share this awesome news and make Supernatural in Syndication the Paranormal Pick of the Week:

Supernatural in Syndication on Space
Starts Tuesday September 4, 2012; Monday to Friday at 8pm EST on Space

I know we have a lot of fans of the TV series Supernatural out there, but if you've yet to take a ride through the series this is a great way to test the waters. I know I've attempted a summer re-watch of the series every summer (I'm behind and just finished Season 3), and it's a show that has some nice long-arc stories, character development and of course a healthy does of self-referential nods that make it extremely fun to re-watch. The show will be starting on Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 8pm EST with the very first episode aptly named 'Pilot'. If your prime time is full-up, they are also airing at 3PM & 1AM for the daytimers & nightowls out there (although be sure to check your local listings to confirm for air times).

Also Awesome This Week:
  • It's 'from the beginning' mayhem this week, and I'm thrilled to see that Star Trek: The Next Generation just happens to start from the very first episode Encounter at Farpoint in it's syndication cycle on Space on Tuesday September 4, 2012 at 4PM (repeating at 4AM). The schedule for the show appears to be Monday-Friday daily at 4PM & 4AM EST. I Although I'm intensely confident I've seen each and every episode of TNG, I think I'm going to give rewatching it a go. Who doesn't love the the ones of 'Bags of Mostly Water' or how Geordi can Make it Go! Or, the one where they run. Okay, the one where they run is stretching it a bit, but it's all in good fun. It's amazing to see a series over 7 seasons, and it's not often that you get it lined up nicely at episode 1. I'm looking forward to it.
